Spark I know this has been brought up before but I'd like to do so again.

At any one time now there are 4 to 6 or more passaround knives. Each passaround generates subthreads for signups, and reviews.

When mixed in with the general traffic it makes it a little difficult to track the progress, as you have to do a search to find each one. It also makes it a little diffcult for those intersted in signing up as there is no one place to look for the signup threads.

Further I think to some extent it clogs the general forum for those that aren't interested in passarounds.

I think a separate forum for passarounds would be beneficial to address all the above mentioned problems.

I realize it is more administrative hassle, and I'd willing to be moderator for the forum if that would help.

(And if you need space maybe you could axe some of those maufacturer forums that no one uses anymore. :p )

Thanks for the consideration,

I'd have to agree with this suggestion. I think it would be very benefitial to the forums.

As Dave and I seem to be the most active in the passarounds, we could run the passaround forum.

Plus, I might be able to clear out my sig. ;)

Maybe I should send Spark email.

It occurs to me that it would really be helpful to make a sticky thread at the top of a passaround forum that was a passaround FAQ.

This way people would be able to understand the different types, procedures, etc.

Although its been awhile since I've either started or participated in a pass-a-round my vote would definitely be for a seperate board/forum. And I too would be willing to help.

So Spark, how many people do we need to say "yes we'd like a forums for passarounds"?

For a forum to be opened, there should be a:

1. Need for the forum - Is there an actual need for it?

2. Enough traffic to continue supporting it.

3. Moderators.

Right now, it's a possibility. I just need to see enough support for it, etc.

Tp address your points:

1) Well, I think we've indicated a reasonable need. I haven't seen anyone give us much argument that we don't need one.

I could easily make the argument that several existing forums should be removed, since there's no traffic and hence no need. (which I think should occur regardless to conserve resources)

(Edit: I see from the lefty forum you mention 30 people)

2) Though I agree we may not have TONS of traffic, but there are several forums that operate well and have just a handful of active in the last five days threads.

Unfortunately we won't know for sure unless we either try it, or we do some kind of analysis to get a thread count. (which I'll do by using the search)

3) Steven and myself have already volunteered to be moderators.

OK, so I did a search on "passaround" and got 323 hits. A fair number of those hits are from thread not stricly passarounds but instead reference a passaround thread. And there is some duplication due to cross posting.

Since there I think about 8 passarounds currently, with indications of more to come, then it would seem reasonable there would be roughly the same number of ongoing more persistent threads.

If you like us to start sticking exclusivly to the review section then we could try that, but I'd still like to be able to move passaround threads over to the review forum as required. So can we still be moderators to be able to do that?

I think a Passaround Forum is a GREAT idea.
I've been in 4-5? and they have helped me alot in the decision making of purchases (thanks Dave). Having a Forum only for passarounds wouldn't only make things much much easier...for all of us, it might even be a lil extra reason to make some of the newer guys realize 'man, this really is a good place', and give em a good beneficial way to get involved. Though I might be wrong.

That about sums it up. I think we have all we need for a Passaround Forum!

I've never been in a pass around before nor do I plan on been in one anytime soon either.

But I still vote for a new forum for it anyway. I like reading the reviews and opinions of the people who participate.

Right now its just too spread all over the place and its hard to keep up.
