Possible forum for passarounds?

I also think it'd be an awfully good idea. Nothing says you can't archive it or move everything to the reviews forum if the passaround practice doesn't last forever.

I second, third, fourth....the motion. I have participated in a passaround, and there have been times when I was interested in the reviews spawned by a passaround.

Having a separate forum with the ability to search only in that forum for reviews would be awesome!

Spark, just curious, Steven and I volunteered to be moderators. Is there anyother qualifications needed beside volunteering?

Thanks,

Lots and lots of cash (or nubile young women). I'm a difficult guy to please.

Spark: Have we drummed up enough support for a passaround forum? I think there is plenty of need, and as I stated before, Dave and I could moderate it. I'd really like to see this happen! Thanks!

passaround forum, eh?

Yeah, it's a good idea.

Kevin - we've been buggin you about this for a good year-and-a-half. Have we not stood the test of time?

In my mind, there are even better reasons we need a passaround forum:
  • Brand Recognition
  • "One Stop Shopping" - all in the same place
  • Ease of signing up and maintaining passaround threads

Right now there are passarounds all over the place and it gets very confusing for the people reading the thread as well as those involved.

There is a forum for Testing
There is a forum for Identifying
There is a forum for Laws

Why couldn't there be one for Passarounds?

I think the reason why Dave and Steven want it so bad is that it would make their job 10 times easier = having to babysit passarounds in multiple locations vs. all passarounds in the same forum.

Dave and I struck up this idea way back when and even though I'm not as involved in it as I have been before (just one passaround for me right now) I still think it would be a great idea.

Plus - it would definitely help drive traffic to the website. Think of the search engine potential...:D

Don't we all wish there was a Contest Forum too?

I'm all for it. Since Dave H and Steve are willing to be Moderators, I think it's a Win / Win situation. Anyway, it's got my vote.

I've never been in a passaround... _yet_.

I think it's a great idea. A passaround forum would make it easier for us users to _find_ the passarounds, and would make it easier for the guys running them (who're already going to an awful lot of trouble for all our sakes).

I say "why not".

i'd very much like to be a part of this.
if there are enough pass around knife 'events' that a forum would be warranted for them, then i think it's definitely a good idea, and i look forward to it!

also, i'm inclined to think that a forum for passing may encourage more said activity, and possibly manufacturers may use that forum as a promotional tool and a way to put their product into the hands of collectors/users/fanatics for review. this gives the MFR feedback, and perhaps more sales, while giving us opportunities for testing different blades, some which we may never have considered trying otherwise. sure seems like a win-win to me :D

Thanks for the support guys!

I think a passaround/contest forum could be one in the same, the mission is similar, plus it would help keep the traffic up.

And if things continue to work out passarounds threads will become even more numerous.

Thanks,

Sounds like a good idea, it keeps the Blade Discussion Forum free of those passaround and contest threads (not that there's anything wrong with 'em) and you're able to locate said threads immediately.

Great idea. I've tried to be in a few passarounds, but by the time I saw them they've been filled up. A passaround forum will make it easier for all involved.

Just found this thread, this site is so successfull with so many posts it is hard for me to keep track of them all...which is why a separate forum for the pass arounds is a great idea. I actually happened upon the Busse pass around thread and signed up for it. A month later after not seeing the thread (and thinking it fell through) I bought the same Busse, then a couple weeks later saw the thread again saying they were still getting people to sign up. I also just missed a sign up because I never saw the offer. Please consider another forum for pass arounds. :)

Eventhough I can't take part in the US passarounds, I fully support the passaround concept and would like to join in on such activities in my region of the planet :) A dedicated forum makes sense if the support is high enough and would help to build the community even more, which can only be a good thing.

I support the motion.

Nubile, young women. That can be arranged.
OH you're in Kentucky. Can't get them to Kentucky :)
Passarounds are GREAT!! I have been in several. And in spite of DaveH they have been very successful :) :)
No of course it was because of DaveH!
I'm sure the others have been equally great. At least the threads and number of views say so.
It gave me the opportunity to try blades in my setting for a few days. Invaluable.
The reviews were very insightful and helpful to many
A forum of its own would be an asset to the knife community :)
You've tried odder things and succeeded.
Give it a go :) :)

Yes! If the passarounds are going to continue then I think a passaround forum would be ideal :D

tardis brings up a good point. That is some people have asked how to start a passaround. With it's own forum that could be a sticky FAQ at the top of the forum.

As I have mentioned to people, anyone anywhere can start a passaround. They might have to use there own knife and get a relatively local group but that all it takes. Oh and some organization.
