Possible manufacturing defect?

i've ordered knives off ebay before
even the kershaw avalanche got through in perfect condition
i wouldn't be too worried
recently, my mod trident was sent back from refinishing in tiptop condition
the mail service is rather forgiving of knives ime

if you're looking for other sources, local stores won't be able to match their prices, ESPECIALLY if you're on good terms with them
ebay is a good place to look for budget knives

sean, try dropping by sheares at night
a lot of people go there to talk after work
i, alas, am very busy these few days and am in no mood to go anywhere after work

adrian, i suggest you go back to sheares and ask them for a resolution
see if you can get jason :) or johnny for that matter

Hi Dea

I've spoken to William. His stand is that he refuses to let me exchange the knife or return it for a refund. He says my only choice is to send the knife back to Spyderco for repairs. Initially he even wanted me to pay for the shipping. Don't know what is the outcome now but am very disapointed in their service. Maybe I'm just unlucky. After this matter gets resolved, it will be the last time I deal with them. Anyone in Singapore has any other sources to get knives? Apart from bringing it in myself which I'm considering.

Its strange but most people seem to think Sheares service is okay but from the way they are treating me, a first time customer, it does not reflect well of them. It certainly does not instil any confidence in them on my part.

Anyway, since he insists that I have to send it back to Spyderco to get it fixed (he even implied that because I didn't spot the defect before the knife left his shop so it has become my problem and that he is actually doing me a favour by sending it back to Spyderco for me) I have no choice in the matter. No point bringing such things up to CASE. I tried reasoning with him but somehow he is entirely closed to it. Jason doesn't seem to have much of a say in it although just before William took over the phone to refuse me Jason did say I could exchange it.

Nuff said. First and last time for me at Sheares.

Hope you guys have better luck than me.

Regards

Adrian, I'm with you that they have not ALWAYS shown good customer service. To be fair, all of us have bad days, so it may be one of those days with regard to your experience. However, Johnny (the friendly slim young chap with glasses) has always given me top notch customer service (even though he's not the owner). Kudos to him and other staff (tall slim fair chappie). ;)

I don't think you've been treated right in the present instance. If anything is defective, the vendor should replace it. All the more so, if you're a first time customer - unless they're trying to imply, "we don't want your continuing custom, so tough!". However, since they've sent it to Spyderco for repairs on your behalf at no cost to you, you are pragmatic to accept that, and thereafter move on and give your custom to someone else.

Generally, I am of the opinion that customer service can definitely be improved in Singapore. Vendors almost always fail to discharge their legal obligations under the local consumer laws :rolleyes:

Personally, I will continue to give my custom to Sheares as they do stock some things I like, so long as there's always friendly staff like Johnny and the items are not unreasonably priced.

Perhaps this thread should be moved to the GB&U forum?

ehh
something is not right here
i'll go suss something out tomorrow
hope to have some news for you

By the way, I've just been to Sheares and William has got the said Sypderco with him.

I've seen it and it seems that the blade is really under sharpen. That's why the "excess" blade is touching the steel tube.

Anyway, William will be sending the knife back to Spyderco for repair.

Please keep us updated regarding this issue.

I, for one, is curious to see if Sheares will carry out the repair work.

Sean

Hi,

am glad you guys have seen the knife and agree its a defect and not some made up story on my part. Anyways, I've resigned myself to not seeing the knife for a while. I'll keep you guys posted.

Cheers

Adrian
