Possible Mod For RC5?

Yea lead was never my thing, and I got too old for even low level free anymore. I do miss climbing though.
 
New Idea....this one not so crazy

What if the mirca handle opposite to the bow drill pivot was recessed for a small striker rod, and the bolt holding the grips on would slightly over lap it making the rod sit snugly into the handles.

You could probably pull that off by using a dremel to shape out a section in the handle and then just tape the rod to the handle or wrap a rubberband around it. :thumbup:

True, howver the rubber band would annoy me or if it was to break your rod is gone. The idea of the same screw holding down the rod would keep it from getting any bulkier and maintain current hardware. The head of the screw would just have to barely over lap the groove

If this was actually made from RAT it could easily be cut into the handles while they are being produced. I dont know what process is used but im assuming a CNC machine with bits, it would just be a small insertion and a drag for the ferro rod
 
Off topic, but since everyone here is just ooooooooooooooooooooooo-so active in the thread. Where can I get replacement rods for the RAT Fire Kit
 
After use the rod changes shape, there would have to be something to hold it in the handle other than the screw. Tape would be the best solution in this case, or you could dish out some dough for the new packs that attach to the sheaths or even modify the sheath somehow to hold the rod rather than the knife.
 
I read that five times and I'm still confused.

The replacements rods come with a whole new handle too! :)
 
Depending on how far the screw goes down, and how deep the rod is seated, the screw could just be tightened until it was snug.

I already have the RC5 with EAGLE sheath and plan to rock a RAT fir kit in the pouch, but this could be maybe option. Order the knife with the ferro holder grips for a little more?
