Possible Safety Problem with LM wave

I got myself a WAVE for Christmas as a possible replacement for my Super, so far I have not been overly impressed, but it seems like a nice enough tool, but looking at it i just noticed that when in the open position to use the pliers, that there is a good chance that the meat on my hand would suffer greatly if it were ever to slip off of something. There is a very small space between the handles and the sharp edges of the closed blades.

It looks like the possibility for pinching and blood blisters is pretty high, so thus I am relegating my Wave to light duty service and going to continue relying on my Super.

I know alot of people have been bit by Gerbers(hence why I have found three of them while camping...tossed in the woods in anger), and I think the WAVE poses a sililar safety hazard.

Those people that threw their Gerber's were pretty stupid. My old Gerber bit me once, I swore and yelled for a few minutes, then finished what I was doing. I haven't ever had it happen again, and I don't think that my newer model has as much a chance of doing it.It hurts like hell when you do it, and thats why it only took me 1 time to learn how to hold them. Why would you throw them away

Maybe pinching my hand is what made me not care about severely abusing them, even so they lasted 4 years

Maybe you should pinch your hand, you'll get more use out of your tools when you use them for everyhitng in hopes that they break

Just checked my Wave....I don't see any real danger of pinching unless I use an especially silly grip.
Been bitten by a Gerber, though, and can understand why they litter the bush.
Gave mine to my son...after all, what's he ever done for me

Just picture trying to tighten like a 7/16" nut or something. Open the pliers large enough to grab onto a nut that size and notice how much of the meat of your hand is going to be in the way if the thing slips off the nut. With a Super LEatherman the handles are rounded there and pinching is minimal, but with the wave you have the spine of the knife and file/saw there. It is probably going to hurt a bit more than even the infamous gerber.

It is just an observation, but I don't like the idea of it happening to me, especially if I am in the middle of nowhere, and I have to rely on my tool to save me.

I've been carrying and using a Wave daily for about the last 8 weeks, use it several times a day, and it ain't happened yet.
