Possibly a stupid question

I am building a GIB, and have a possibly stupid question haha. Which way should the belt rotate on a grinder? Looking at the platen, should the belt be going down or up? I think down, but I want to make sure.

yes you want the belt running down the face of the platen for grinding. Running up it will be throwing sparks in your face and lifting the stock up off the work rest causing chatter.

Thanks Grayzer, yeah thats what I figured, just wanted to double check with people who have actual experience.

If you get the right vfd it can go either way! I ran mine backwards a little yesterday for shaping a finger choil on the top platen wheel.
