Folks,

I've really enjoyed lurking her in the traditionals forum and seeing everyone's treasures. I wanted and intended to do a 1000th post give-away but in classic me style came upon a cunundrum of what to give-away. My collection, so to speak, is very small, to hear me describe it, and most of the contents are gifts to me or heirlooms from family. I consulted a couple people for advice (thank you - you know who you were) and was very close to a decision. But I still faltered at pulling the trigger.

Then on a recent shopping trip I saw a display case with some of the "new" Schrade OT's that didn't look so bad. I looked at what they had on hand and tried to decide between an 8 OT, a 34 OT, and another model I forgot the number of. Then I remembered how I had mentioned to someone here that I have carried a Schrade USA 108 OT for probably close to 25 years. He said I should write it up as a testimonial to the knife. The store had a 108 OT so I decided to get that for my give-away.

Here's my old Schrade USA 108 OT:

It's seen quite a bit of use and a little abuse over the years but it has served me well. It was purchased as an unobtrusive pocket knife to have at high school and college and at work in general as it doesn't take up too awful much pocket room and is quite useful. It's been quite the companion. It gets displaced every now and then by some new attraction but eventually it ends up back in my pocket, going everywhere with me, never complaining if its jostled by my extra keys or even another knife.

Here's the new Schrade 108 OT (china made) I'm giving away:

Brand new, well, it has been used to open three envelopes, and ready to go to a new home. I hope it will serve its new owner as well as my old 108 has served me.

Open to all members in the US and Canada. (I live next to the Canadian border so its not a problem to cross and ship it there.) There have been no new entries for a while now so a winner was picked. See post #26. Please try to just post once but I'm not going be that picky or anal about picking a winner. If I can't figure out the random thing I'll come up with some other way to chose the winner. Please be patient with me - this is my first give-away as a benefactor and not a beneficiary. If I'm forgetting anything important please PM me. (Subject to change upon directions from mods or suggestions from others whose input I value.)

Several more lousy photos of the old and new 108 OT here.

Not an entry but I just wanted to say: Thanks for generosity and I love way your old Old Timer looks. Now that is how well used knife should look.

Thanks for the chance. I have never even seen one of the new Schrades up close so I'm in. BTW love the look of that old friend of yours.

That would be me you spoke to.
Thanks for the the review AND the pick. It's always cool to see the knife someone is talking about.
Not entering the give away. Just stopping by to say thanks.

Thats the same knife my grandfather carries to this day and hes had it forever. On my 10th birthday he bought me my first knife for christmas a Case Stockman that i still have today. While I dont own a OT yet they will always hold a special place in my heart from watching my grandfather use his to clean out his pipe or whitle some sticks for us to cook over the fire on.

After I purchased my 108 OT I liked it so much that I bought several for Christmas presents. Not sure if I gave one to all the guys of the family but I do remember giving one to my grandpa. I remember being shocked when he opened it and the blade had corroded some. He told me "just needs a little oil". Now I know!

I'm not sure what happened to that knife. After he passed I got the knife box back but there was a different knife inside. I'll have to take a picture or that one some day and post it. See if someone know what it is.
