Post #440 - traditionals with stainless blades

I can't say enough about this knife, the Camillus 51B barlow, Camillus marketed it as a "hard use" knife in their 1986(?) catalog and they were not joking when they said that, I've put this knife through it's paces since I traded for it and I couldn't be happier, this barlow sports 440a stainless steel, solid nickel silver bolsters, delrin handles, brass liners, half stops that walk/talk, and a nice bail and it's outperformed my best knives without fail :D has definitely earned a permanent spot in my pocket!

When I first started collecting I avoided carbon steel  1. because I didn't know any better, and 2. I figured low maintenance would be best for me since I was too busy fooling around with watches. The lure of all those sweet GEC's in 1095 made me change my mind, as well as Case's CV. Now I probably have as many carbon steel as stainless steel knives.

In my collection, I have many Case, Schatt and Morgan, Canal Street and German brands in stainless. I haven't done a whole lot of sharpening yet so I can't judge the difference between SS and carbon for sharpening and maintaining an edge. My knives with few exceptions ride in my pocket to open letters and cut up the occasional cardboard box. When camping season begins again though we shall see...

I will be looking out for one of these. Looks as if it has everything I want in a knife.

I think my 4 dot buck 110 is my only 440C stainless knife.

My Schrade made Craftsman 9552 from '67-69' may be 440C, but I just don't know.

Then there is the 7 or 8 Case 2000's I have, here's my well used stockman.

Hi Mark!

Great looking knives... That Schrade looks great. Thank you for showing this great little knives :)

Kind regards
Andi

Ed, I meant to ask last time I saw this lovely picture. What accounts for the difference in frame size, the age of the knife? I would love to find a larger size mini copperhead like your amber bone model.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the Opinel range. I think they are very traditional & come with a stainless steel blade.

Doug, that's one heck of a beautiful little mini copperhead! Almost makes me forget those other little knives I like.

Carl.
I just got my Lady Friend a Mini copperhead Deep Canyon Chestnut, which is Amber Carved Stag Bone just like Queen

I'm a bit late Mark, but your 4 dot 110 isn't 440C, it's 425M. The 3 dots were the last of the 440C. You can confirm that on the Buck sub-forum if you wish.
