Post heat treat grinding of Aldo's 1084

Did a search and couldn't find a straight answer. Was wondering if I would have problems with my edge hardness if I ground the blade completely post heat treat. The reason I ask is due to the shallow hardening properties of 1084. The stock I will be using is 1/4" and 3/16.
Thanks in advance
Wes

1084 is not shallow-hardening like 1095. I'm not qualified to discuss the details of why, but it's covered in several highly technical threads around here.

You could still ruin the heat-treat at the thin edge. Grinding 1/4" and 3/16" post-heat-treat sounds like madness to me, but perhpas there's a good reason? Why wouldn't you want to work it while it's nice and soft?

No reason just looking at different way to skin the cat. Thanks for the reply. I will most likely grind most of my primary befor ht.

Grinding blades below .100" post HT is commonly done, but thicker blades need to be pre-ground in most every case.

Shallow hardening is a metallurgical term that may confuse knifemakers. It referrs to tests done on 1" round rods. In the thickness we work in, all knife steels fully harden from side to side....assuming they were heat treated properly.

10-4 bladsmth that's what I was looking for. I had a feeling that was the case with the thinner cross section. I'm doing the fng shuffle right now ironing out the process. Prior planning prevents piss poor performance.
