People often tap themselves out financially around the holiday season, and purchases that the rest of the year would be a drop in the bucket become rare, if not completely off limits. So as a maker who does this for a living, I am curious to know what kind of knives in what price range you are likely to buy in January, and February, if any? No sense in making something extravagant during the cold winter months that won't pay my heating bills, if you know what I mean.

I don't know where Oklahoma Outlaw Oklahoma Outlaw works and what they pay but I'd like to apply for a job.

I should mention that I have never paid more than $150 or so for a knife so my buying habits are of the less frugal nature then many here at BFs.

I do tend to buy a knife in Jan or Feb only because I tend to get $ at X-mas. The $ received during the holidays go into my "spend whatever you want fund". Unfortunately, that fund also needs to cover firearms, ammo, and any related items which is why I don't buy as many knives are other folks (like OK outlaw) during the course of the year. If I drop $500 on a firearm, that means no knives for awhile so I need to budget carefully.

So to answer David Mary David Mary 's question, I would *think* you might find some a small uptick in sales in Jan only because some folks get money for X-mas and will want a new knife.

PS. Do you keep track of sales in a spreadsheet? If might be worthwhile to consider it if you don't.

I have decided to simply NOT stop buying knives...
We're already starting the process of designing something new and awesome for 2022! 😁

Personally, I'll probably chase several more rare Victorinox knives, and probably pick up a few others, whatever catches my eye at the time. I DO know I'll be buying knives pretty much all next year, just not sure what those will be at the moment.

It's hard to say what's on the horizon....

Lately, my spending habits have been towards larger chopperesque fixed blades. There is nothing specific that has caught my eye yet, but that can change in a heartbeat. I'm always looking, custom or production.

For sake of throwing a number out there, I'd say 400 (Canadian) bucks is probably the max that my post-Christmas budget would allow.

I stocked up on knives this year as well, so I am going to take it easy. A K390 wharnie DF2 when it drops is all I can think of. I still want to get a few custom scales (100 EUR each). I also just ordered a ZT 640 ($270), not sure if it will be delivered this year or the next.

Even though I spend a lot of $ on them, I'd have a hard time "tapping" myself out $wise buying knives.

I haven't run out of knives that I want to buy "yet." Getting close to that, just not there yet. So, if I see any knives that I want to buy in Jan/Feb (or whenever), I'll buy them.

Right now I'm focusing on "backfilling" my collection w/knives that I need to "round out" my collection or buying "better" versions of knives that I already own. Most of the knives that I buy are in the $150-300 range with a max purchase price of $500.

Never know when the "right" knife will pop up for sale but, as an example, I just purchased a Spyderco M390 Mule to relace a 20CV Mule and a Spyderco Ironwood handled Puuko to replace a G10 Puukko. I also purchased "better" versions of a Spyderco Native 2 SS PE AUS-10 and a Spyderco Native 3 FRN PE (C78). And I finally received shipping confirmation for 2 MagnaCut Mules that I also purchased recently.

So, the holidays, really have no effect on my knife buying compulsion/addiction. :)
