Post of picture of your collections gem!

This one is also pretty cool. A few years ago, I was talking with Bailey Bradshaw at a knife show and we were paging through the book Sheffield Exhibition Knives. (as far as I am concerned that book exemplifies the golden age of cutlery and I know a lot of folder makers and get inspiration on designs from that book.)

Anyway, I asked Bailey to think about making me a whittler based on one we were looking at.

A few years later, this was the result. Forged 52100 blades and all those dots in the pearl are actually pins set into the pearl. Just a mind blowing knife.

Gus,

I don't know if you are aware of this, but your beautiful knife was an inspiration for me to contact Bailey and ask him to use some of the design elements of your knife for a new folder for me. I gave him a few of the specs, and then let him run with the rest. This was the result.

When I saw you repost the picture of your knife in this thread, I realized that I never thanked you for the inspiration for the folder. So, thank you. She's my one-of-a-kind knife that occupies a very special place in my collection!

Awesome knife Mark and I am glad Bailey's whittler provided a little thought for your knife. Actually the thanks should go to Bailey and the knife makers of Sheffield.

Bastid, and Mark J,

Those things are amazing!

You both are really lucky to have such gems. I find both highly ornate, but not over-the-top.

I think there is something very special about a knife that looks nice, but the longer you look at it the more "wow" you start to notice.

holy crap

even my best knife doesnt compare to these! wow,...

The intricacy on some of those is amazing. now all i want to do is save up as much as i can to get a custom beauty.

My friend, the reason I got into customs and the among some of the first of his I obtained. He only had one hand, used a prosthetic on other. Ground by hand, no jigs, polished by hand, from one grit to another. Great big game hunter, had two of the largest ivory tusks under his bed I have ever seen. All around great man and maker. Never really got his due to small output of knives.

I just held a knife in my hands today that looks VERY much like that one. Exquisite.

Wonderful piece.

One of the fathers of all folders to me is my Al Mar SERE Attack 3002a (1991). Its almost 20 years old and still never sharpened or used. The bolsters show some scratches due to time, but that's something that comes along with the 'vintage' status to me. The D.O.L. engraved shield on the bolster and its beautifull dark brown/deep purple Micarta scales makes it one of my most beloved knives.

Although I am mostly into 'tactical' folders and not so much into 'gentlemans' stuff, I still choose also for my Fallkniven PXL IM. One of the most perfect and excelent finished production folders today I know. The 3G laminated steel (HRC 62) and its Ivory Micarta scales make me wanna hold it, touch it, use it.
