post pics of your ganga´s!

I'll have to see if I even have a pick of Uber my 22" chopping monster. When something needs to be cut to pieces or destroyed, Uber comes out of his cave. One of my most trusted khuks:thumbup::D

uber?that sounds like something I´d like to own.but I´ll settle for pics for now.

Well they are so indivdualized it's hard to say.

I have had both and I'd say the Gangas are in general lighter for the same size but the edge is sharper so they are good choppers.

Here's a few!

25", 22.5", two 18", and two 17.25" in polished antler, satisal, horn, bone/silver mounted, carved horn, and horn/silver mtd., all by Bura:

And a few more: (well, you asked... :D)

One 17.25", two 17", one 16.5", and two 15", in polished antler, chandan, chiruwa horn, rough satisal, rough hill walnut and horn, all by Bura except the last 3, which are (scary sharp!) Villager models by Sher:

Note that only a couple really match the forward deep-bellied blade geometry of the Ganga Rams and Baby Gangas on the HI web site, so the model has definitely evolved over time.

Wow. So if a fella wanted the chopping power of a 15" AK, with less of the weight, would a 15" GRS be the way to go?

Wow. So if a fella wanted the chopping power of a 15" AK, with less of the weight, would a 15" GRS be the way to go?

They would weigh about the same. 15" BGRS weighs about 20 oz., and an AK 20-22 oz. 15" CAK will weigh a few oz. more. But many people feel the blade geometry is a little more efficient with the BGRS, and they seem to handle a bit better, which means they seem to cut better. I think that's a good generalization, but YMMV.

15" BGRS is not that common, and are usually villagers I believe. The standard size is about 17-18" and weighs 26-28 oz. or so.

nice pics Svashtar.how is the bigger uns for chopping?and do they get less belly as the length increases or is it only me?

Nope, good eye. But they didn't always used to be that way. BTW, Look at Bladites photo of the biggest GR knife at the far right (3rd one in.) (I don't know but I would swear that is Salinas BigJim's 25" full tang neem GR, offered a couple of days after mine. And to think I hit him up for that one too! He said he didn't want to sell. :( ;)) If that's it then that neem one and my antler one on the far left of the first pic are the only 25" GR's I know of. (My bad; there have been a few others here and there.)

Anyway, to answer your question, look at the next one over from the right (the 4th in) on Bladites photo and compare it my second one from the left. Those are almost exactly the same size of 22" or so, but I'll bet his is heavier, at least 3 lbs. and it's obvious it has a bigger belly. That's an early HI GR there, while mine was made about 3 years ago. His 22" also has an even more pronounced habaki bolster. If I'm correct about Bladites big one being the 25" neem knife, then it weighs about 45 oz., so is actually lighter than the shorter 22" old style GR next to it.

Mine will be easier to heft, but may not hit as hard. Still, my full size 22" is 42 oz. and that's a bit to swing when the knife is that long.

Bottom line, like you said, is that nowadays when you do see them over 18", they are usually more a regular leaf-shaped blade.

so the change is evolution and not caused by change in bladelength.
a 25" sounds interesting but I will test the one I´m getting, might be more than enough.
guess this is sorta like magnumitis,I`m always interested in something bigger and more powerful

One thing I wish the Kamis would do with the BGRS

If you look at that full size one, the blade doesn't curve as much.

I wish the smaller ones still had the overall shape of the larger one.

25 inch 45 OZ Wood GRS (dunno what kind, of all my neem, only one has that neem smell, COULD be, dunno) by Master Kami Bura, rat tail, not full tang (unless you meant something other than chiruwa)

21.5 inch 43 ounce GRS by Sanu (cross) with Saatisal wood handle; this thing has the leafiest fattest ever imho most perfect and pleasing GRS shape. VERY thin edge, 3/4-1/1 inch edge profile, it's like a razor. i'm a little concerned on heavy chopping it might wave out, so it's been cared for a lot

i have a 20.5 inch 47 ounce - VERY heavy foxy folly that i would surely but against an AK or a GRS of the same size. wow. the fullers make the deal :> it also has that pleasing leafy shape. compare to the 21 inch fighter style foxy folly that rings like a bell if you look at it. vines only please.

samshers, of which i have two 19 inch ones (rat tail and chiruwa) are mighty fine choppers, and with their cousin the bushman/gak, make fine leafy boys.

one of the few things i still lust for blade wise is a BONECUTTER. magnificient fat leafy blade. oh yeah.

all of these puppies are devastating choppers imho. i've gotten a few random things since i took those pictures last, and a better camera. in my free time, with better light coming in, i'll do a family photo shoot again; AKs, foxies, GRSs, BDCs, etc. i might have TOO many ya know? we shall see. look for sales in the appropriate legal places.
