Gransfors Small forest axe. the are expensive, but they are great. it is in my trio of most trusted tools. once you get really good with an axe, other tools are just extras.

There is the key! once you get good with an axe.

I am mprobably of the last generation to grow up using an axe on a regular basis. And I'm very thankful to have a bit of skill with them.

My only problem currently is finding good ones. And a source for handles.

Mine used to be the GB SFA, until I started modifying my own. Now, I love this one, both in the 17" version and the 24" version:

Since these pictures, I also modified the handle nub to be more friendly.

I also have an old Collins in the works that will receive a new 17" handle, which by the looks of things, will end up being my new favorite.

The head geometry will allow me to do the flattening before the eye, and further up from the cutting edge bevel grind. It will also allow for a very wide cutting edge bevel. I hope to do pictures of it when I am done.

Refinished S&N. Took a lot off the front and some off the back of the hand swell. Refinished the handle, sharpened the damn thing, and took the varnish off the bit.

No name Japanese bit that I'm still working on. The edge had to be reprofiled quite severely, and that beard puts a lot of leverage on the eye. So far it has broken two handles and if this one does not stay put that will be it. It cuts really well though, and it is very convenient for chocking up behind the blade.

I like hawks and axes. Hawks are great for when you have to carry your gear. They are very light for the kind of work they do. I actually just got a new CS TrailHawk yesterday that I plan on stripping the paint off ,bluing the steel and doing some rawhide wrap below the head as strike protection.

I love Brians shiny axe.

Love my Wetterlings, just as good as anyone of ya GB's. :D

C'mon, Brian! You're killing me with those modified Snow & Neally pics. When are you gonna work on more of those?

Perksy, good choice in sticking a Bravo-1 alongside your GB!

Fonly, I always wanted a GB, but could only afford a Wetterlings. I'm NOT disappointed either! Good choice with that Grohmann and Nimravus!

Here's my little Wetterlings (it needs a little Briangandrews makeover).

A Wetterlings LHA and a Fiskars handy 600. The Fiskars is a great beater. I bought the KaBar out of curiosity. It's not very good :o
