I thought this idea might achieve some interesting outcomes. Post pictures of your used and stained carbon steel knives here. Let's see that knife after 3 years of use. Ugly, pretty, almost destroyed... whatever. The only rule is the knife has to exhibit staining.

Here is one of my favorite cutters/slicers, made out of 52100 steel:

Sometimes when I'm done using my high carbon steel knives, I let them sit on purpose, but not too long. That's what happens.

This is one of the reasons I like carbon steel so much. It gets loads of character as it's used, while stainless on the other hand just gets scratched.
 
Best I got is this one, O1 and a little less than a years' use and it's developed an okay patina .

I used this one a lot over the past week. Including a three day camping trip far, far, far up-north. I had to resharpen it. Took a pic.
