Post Pictures of Your Craftsman 2x42 Knife

This was a transition knife (I did the handle shaping on my new KMG, but to the best of my recollection I did almost everything else on the Craftsman):

This was a pure Craftsman knife, albeit with lots of hand work:

Thankfully my equipment, craftsmanship, and photography have all improved since these were made!

You know what?

I *JUST* made a post about how I was deciding between this 2x42 and another sander.

Well, looks like I've got all the proof I need.

I won't lie, I didn't use a 2x42 on these. I have a Delta Shopmaster 1x30 that I've modified a bit. Its slow and I go through belts pretty quick, but it does the job. I'm hoping to get a "real" grinder shortly.

Wow. I just started my first knife using the good ol hack saw and files... It's slow going. I've been looking at the 2x42 but so many people say it's not worth it. This thread has changed my mind. I'm moving this summer and don't want to dump hundreds of hundreds of dollars on a grinder. Thanks all for posting your excellent work.

Can I play, too? :) Everything on my site was ground on a Craftsman 2x42 except the red/black K-bar, that was a kit blade way back in high school.

If I had to start all over on a budget I'd get another Craftsman 2x42 and a B&D or HF drill press. Get good bits for the press and a glass platen for the Craftsman and buy good belts from TruGrit or SuperGrit, and you're ready to rock. If you take your time you can do a lot with only $300 or so worth of power tools (maybe cheaper if you scrounge around some).

2x42? That's luxurious! I've done all of my work so far with a Grizzly 1x30. Edge work and majority of the profiling.

I'm not going to lie... I'm really looking forward to getting that KMG. :)

these photos show what you can do with a limited budget and alot of imagination and inginuity.

Really just shows Talent trumps machine quality! I will just keep grinding away on my KMG? Would gladly trade it for all the skills you guys have!! Simply awesome work!!

Here are a couple I've done on my Craftsman 2 x 42. Not as good as the others above, but it is only my second and third (in order of appearance).I have two more blades back from HT that I've cleaned up, but not finished yet.

Nice work guys, very impressive. Glad I'm not alone in this dark world of under-privileged grinders.

Apologies, I just re-checked the thread. That's lacewood. Really cool material. The way the wood is layered makes the contours stick out like micarta.

Its bloody nice wood!

Thanks

Taiden, thanks for the mods videos. I have the 2 x 42 Craftsman and these mods are going to be a mega improvement on my grinds.

Glad I could help you all out. I'm going to be modifying mine to take either 2x48 or 2x72 belts. I haven't decided which. I have this feeling that 2x72 would be too much for the little 1/3 hp motor. I wish I had the older 2/3 hp one.
