Post pictures of your Emersons here!

Hey thanks for the reply. My late night post was just way to wordy. So I removed it.

I love the 7's also and have a few. But I also have a lot of other Emersons and I wonder which would be the one for a life and death situation. The problem is Emerson gives so many choices. :)
Out of your list, for SHTF scenario, I would have chosen the Super8 (I do have fairly big hands). My only knock on the 8 family is the "inefficient" handle-to-blade-length ratio; that is not a thought when a bad actor is being dealt with. The secure and lengthy grip is MUCH more important then, and the big blade guard is a real plus in high stress/effort use. I have always preferred the Emerson models with a tapered, almost pointy, butt such as the 8's, Commander, and this GJ (among others). Most useful for attitude adjustments, plus allows my hand into my pocket when reaching in for other items.

Just got this bad boy used from a very generous member. It is from the first batch of HD7s and has almost no hole for the detent ball to fall into. It was well worn upon getting it. The lockbar has already travelled over to the other side. However there is no lock rock and it still performs flawlessly.

I would like to send it in some day for warranty work but I am scared as it is the older model Hd7 they will toss it and give me store credit. Even assuming they did offer me a newer hd7 i like how the new one has a lockbar steel tab but dislike it has bearings and standoffs rather than a backspacer.

Does anyone know what will happen if I send it in? It has quickly become my favourite knife.

This is exactly the type of info and reply I was looking for. Emersons are a defense knife 1st and you bring up some really good points about the grip length and how much blade length really does not matter in that moment as long as you have a sturdy grip in a fight.

I just tossed my regular 8 into my bag because of your post. Along with 4 other emersons ( 2 Commanders and two 7's + 2 spyderco salts for the beach). Going to Brazil tomorrow. Hope none get stolen from luggage on the flight over.

Leaving the GJ's at home this time. But I do feel more comfortable with the GJ in a bad situation because of the pointy blade and easy "pokey" stabbing ability thru the sternum. Which I have seen drop a guy as fast as a bullet.

I doubt I will have to use a knife anyway because those criminals all use guns over there. They work in groups of 2 or 3. So just best to give them what they want . It is only if they want something more than my wallet is my concern since my 14 year old daughter will be with me.

Just include a not like the one written here. I would think they could fix the detent under warranty and then also move that lockbar also. Just send it in and write what you did here to them .. It is YOUR knife so they just can't toss it.

jeez, that is a nice sharpening job. What did you use/do to get that?

Thank you! Edge pro Apex with original stones, 120-3200 grit. But the picture lies a bit, if you zoom in you’ll see that I didnt get the hole bevel, especially under the logo.. I need some more practise and I need to level the stones.. regardless, it will treetop hair on both arms and head :)

For a hand to hand scenario, the Emerson I'd most want in my hand would be the Tiger or Counterstrike. That is the best folder grip ever for secure retention.
