I thought it would be fun for everyone that went to the class to show off their blades here. I finally took a couple of shots of my knife; of course I have already scratched it up using it and sharpening it.

I also have gone a couple of grits finer on my handle sanding, and I still have a little ways to go, but now I feel like I have a feel for what I am doing....

Anyway - pictures of Mqqn Handmade Knife #1 -

You can barely see it in this shot, but I let the blade touch the grinder for a split second and made a "beauty mark" on the mark side -

I look forward to seeing pictures of the rest of the knives - I was really impressed with all the cool designs that people came up with!

Nice Andy.
The beauty mark gives one a better appreciation of what John does on a regular basis eh.

Looking forward to more pics folks.

I dunno - I have them in google photos - I will move them to my server tonight and quit trying to use google -

Ethan - I sanded my handle down to 400 grit and it got much smoother and a little shiny - I am going to keep going to 1000 - but I have to go back to a more coarse grit as I have revealed a few spots where I nicked the micarta while shaping it on the grinder. Oh the trials and tribulations of a knifemaker lol -

Very nice, I was considering doing the same, down to compound buffing them to get them nice and shiny, but I kind of like the slightly rough micarta, it's a little more grippy :-)

Here's a few of mine. Put a nasty edge on it on Monday, shaved off half my arm hair with it. Takes a crazy sharp edge.

Sprayed it down with some corrosion inhibitor, we'll see how it does

Sweeeeeeeeeeddddgggeeee

I was very happy with how it came out

Very nice you guys!

I like the Wharny/Tanto blade a lot. Even has a skull crusher built into the butt.

Took a quick one of mine, I'll post more when I get some time. I'll make a sheath when I get time also. The handle is blood wood.
Not perfect but "It will cut"

Finally finished sanding/sealing the handle. Obviously I went with a kephart design. Handle is black locust, which I picked because there's a bunch of trees on my property.

Sanding the locust drove me nuts! Some of the wood grain looked like a scratch. I'd sand it out and another would appear. Nuts I tell you!...nuts! I think some OCD was kicking in.

You can see a long line in front of the lanyard hole. The more I sanded, the worse it got. So finally gave up. Not sure if its a hairline crack or just the grain?

First pic is at John's house right after we finished.

Shout out to my man John "Bloodsport" Smith....aka on the forumn "darkmatter". John does some awesome leather work! He brought a few items to the knife workshop. And I was more than happy to take this sheath off his hands. His contact info is on John's website.

yep - Awesome knives, each one was cool and different in it's own way -

Katy and Ethan had very ambitious designs, and pulled them off with style!

darkmatter had a very stylish yet traditional design in a very interesting scale material, and he really had to work at it but came out with a beauty that I bet we see at many future gatherings! Can't wait to see the sheath!

Scooter had some cool Bocote wood blocks, and he perfectly matched the grain on his handle - you can't tell from his picture, but it was perfect! He is a student of small fixed EDC, so his design reflects that use efficiently. I think he is considering a darkmatter sheath for it as well.

Brent "Big Chief" came up with a very racy looking Kephart - it is just a cool knife - traditional with that "aero" look to it. He also picked up a darkmatter sheath for his knife which fit it like it was designed for it. I bet there was lots of fondling of that knife on the 10+ hour drive back to Pennsylvania! Thanks for driving all that way, it was great meeting you.

Everyone worked very hard on their knives, truly putting their heart into it, and the results show that determination to learn and come home with the knife they envisioned when they made the patterns.

I chose a pattern that is one of John's standards and modified it to not have a choil, and also to have a rounded spine. I like how it came out, and I already have used it several times around the house, opening packages and woodpecker suet cakes. It Weeeeel Kut! I also picked up a "bloodsport" darkmatter sheath that fit my knife perfectly - I'll get pictures of that too.

Thanks again to John for a great weekend, and thanks to the participants, my friends, for posting up their pictures - great knives each one!

best
