Post the biggest gun you shoot

There are some 391 20 gauge barrels in various lengths available on gunbroker.com now.

I used to shoot one these quite a bit. 40mm. I'd love to shoot a Solothurn

Now the biggest I have have is the 454 Alaskan.

Or is the 45-70 bigger? My new Marlin Scout is a 45-70.

HK's have different stocks, and different finishes. Can't comment on flash hider as I can't see it. I have an original pre import ban HK 91 and it looks completely different. The older 91's are very similar to the G3's that the german army used to carry when I was over there. I used to work with their "feldjaegers" from their mountain division and I fell in love with the G3A3. They, along with their basic load of ammo get heavy.

My 91, with 6 extra magazines loaded in a BAR belt weighs in right around 30 lbs. I still prefer it over a AR/CAR though. It's loud, smoky, oily and heavy, but it sure works. No mistaking the clacking sound of a HK bolt though. Joe

My biggest hunting gun is my Fox B 12 gauge with both barrels reamed to just .003 thousanths choke and firing round ball (.685 loaded in standard shot cup Winchester Red) at 1450 fps. I use the same in a Mossburg pump in Peru.
I never pulled the trigger on an 8 inch but did alot of time in the gunners seat in an M60-A1 launching 105mm rounds direct fire. Best target was an old personel carrier... 1st Hep round (High Explosive) removed all hatches and the 2nd left just the bottom frame sitting on the wrecked track systen.

My biggest, M198. Biggest I've shot in the last few years though is .50 BMG. Biggest I own personally though is my Garand .30-06 or Lee Enfield , both 30 cals , though I don't know which is bigger in actuality I do know the Enfield kicks a bit harder

I have not shot this one for a while, the Rabbits in the back paddock are thin on the ground this season

Well....the Enfield is the bigger bore using a .311 diameter bullet versus the .308 diameter bullet of the Garand. Why the difference between the cartridge name and the actual bullet size on the Enfield? The cartridge was originally design as a blackpowder round and at that time bore size was determined by measuring between the lands in a barrel, not the size of the bullet used or the measurement of the bore groove to groove as they do today.

Absintheur,
Thanks for the clarification, I knew their must have been a reason it kicks so hard

The other factor involved in the difference in the recoil between your two rifles is the Garand is a semi-auto. Some of the recoil impulse is taken up in working the action and softens felt recoil. The Bolt action transmits all of it to your shoulder.

Used to use a.303 British and a 9x62mm Mauser. The largest I have fired was the 600 nitro express. It was not a pleasant experience. I joined in a general try out of the 454 revolver trying double taps. That was also a very unpleasant experience. (but you just have to try)

Looks like one of the PTR 91's sold by Atlantic Arms, basically a copy of the H&K.

That would have been my guess, too, as I have been looking at them very hard lately - I think I'd rather have it than my AR-10, at almost the same price.

I have the CETME, which I really love; have had the HK 91, which I actually didn't care for... But I hear the PTR's are now pretty dang good since they got the initial production bugs worked out.... Want to try one first, though, especially in light of my disappointment with the '91....

As to the biggest I shoot? I'd have to say the slugs coming outta my 20 guage are the biggest caliber I shoot... And either my .308's or my .303's are the largest rifle calibers...

I've had H&K 91's...I am even a school trained H&K Armorer but my choice in a .308 MBR?

I really like my FN/FAL. The scope is an FN marked Hendsolt w/bdc for the 150gr .308. It has been on and off countless times and has never needed adjustment.

Of course I can kick it up in power in a MBR as well by going to my 8X75 Hakim shown here in it's island camo....

I had a used FN/FAL once - it really sucked... But I have to consider my immaturity at the time I got it and the source I bought it from... Maybe if I had started off with a setup like yours, I may not have ever explored the other two types of .308 semi-auto platforms... :D

Got rid of it and got the CETME and have been happy with it. I also feel more comfortable breaking down the CETME/HK system way more than the FAL or, now, my AR-10 (an impulse buy, sort of, especially considering I know very little about it! But I kind of want to get into a nice long range platform, so I picked up a basic one with nothing extra on it to learn by...)

Hard to say, I have not seen a real FN/FAL that wouldn't shoot as long as it had been cared for properly but I know some company imported some real crap at times, part guns they slapped together themselves. Mine was built by Ohio Rapid Fire and is a jewel. I should own a H&K considering how many spare parts I have for them but I just prefer the ergonomics of the FN. The MP5PDW on the other hand is as slick a subgun as I have owned.

Just for comparison here are my wildcats shown with a 45/70 round for scale. As you can see the 450 Alaskan does have a good bit more capacity, it is based on the .348 case necked up.
