Here are some pics of my first handgun - Smith and Wesson Model 29-3, .44 Magnum. I carried it off duty while I was working in S.F.. Also, I used my Model 29 in many revolver combat matches.

got that one back in 1300 or so, and lost it in a card game in 1350. eventually figured out them new fangled wheel locks and it's been downhill ever since.

(just keeping up my OLD fart rep - my 1st is back with my BIL in alabama, a colt mk IV series 70 in .45acp he uses to keep the mosquitoes away from his store. had to shoot two so far)

Here's my first handgun - I bought it when I was in high school, back in 1978 or so. Smith Model 28 Highway Patrolman.

I've done a lot of hunting and general shooting with it. I also shot a little bit of NRA action pistol with it.

My first handgun was a 1970's Llama 1911 clone in 9mm.
That thing had issues, and I dont think I had it a year before I traded it
for a Combat Commander.

What? And you didn't turn into a classmate-murdering psycho? Poppycock![/sarcasm]

Very nice wheelguns! I'll try to dig up a photo, but my first handgun was a Kimber Classic Custom in 45 ACP that I got in 2003, I think.

I just might see if I can even FIND my first handgun- it'd be good for a laugh.

It was an Inca man Arms (read true Saturday night special) .22 Revolver. aluminum frame, seven shot double action revolver with about an 1.5" bbl., a cracked forcing cone, broken trigger guard, zero paint (yes, I mean paint) left on the gun. It's size was right between a J-frame an a NAA Black Widow.

Traded for it when I was in the seventh grade or so. used to take it fishing for shooting at snakes and such. Killed a rabbit or two with it also.

I put hundreds of rounds through that thing when I was a kid. Now I'd be afraid to fire it even once.:o

Runs With Scissors post triggered an old memory of my first handgun that I happened to think about just the other day for some odd reason and then promptly forgot all about it again.:o  It's been so long ago that I can't begin to remember where or how I came to have the old pistol to begin with or how or why I got rid of it. It was a single shot .22 LR and looked like a semi-auto.

In reality I suppose my first actually useful handgun is the cheap little .22 caliber my 2nd wife got me for Xmas one year some 40 years or so ago. It is a cheap revolver in that the cylinder has to be removed to load or unload by removing the pin it rotates on.
I keep it loaded with a combo of shot shells and .22 long rifle in my big tackle box for poisonous snakes that get too close for comfort, never have had to shoot one.;)

My first handgun of any real use though is the .357 Ruger Security Six I bought for myself in Oregon a bit over 25 years ago. I got it 2nd hand in a gun shop and really lucked out. Except for a little holster wear it's better than brand new, IMO! Whoever bought it first must've had some work done on its internal works because I've never shot a pistol as smooth and with such a light trigger!
When you go to squeeze a round off it's so smooth you never feel the trigger break which is nice for me as it helps to keep me from flinching. :)

My first handgun was a Ruger GP141 .357. Its still my favorite pistol.

mine was a Ruger P97DC. Nice solid 9mm felt better in my hand than the POS Beretta M9 that I was issued. But Uncle Sam told me I had to carry it.

j/k. I'm a touch on the jealous side :) Nice picks HiramRanger!

First handgun for me would be a 9mm browning. Courtesy of the a-r-m-y.

Still waiting for mine.

Got my Class III FFL (C & R) 2 days ago though...
