Post Up Your NEW Gear ...

Ideally, I'd like side bottle pockets, since I've gone back to using bottles. But yeah, tons of companies make light summit packs that could work. I've been somewhat intrigued with the sea to summit ultasil day pack... 2.4oz simple summit pack... might be nice for backpacking summit pack use. I'm making a list now of possibilities

I think I'm leaning towards just diverting funds from selling off other gear to the purchase of the MLD Burn. We'll see. I'm worried it'll be too big for day hike gear, but on the other hand, I could use it for overnighters and weekenders.

The Utasil day pack looks very interesting. Sort of a Chico bag concept. MLD Burn is pricey.

Water is either stored inside the summit pack or clipped to the outside with a nite ize s-biner whenever we're out and about.

Yeah, that's the problem, the MLD Burn is indeed pricey. I could just store inside pack, but I really do enjoy having my water right in pockets on the outside, since it's usually what gets accessed the most. Just a personal preference HYOH thing.

Guyon, are SpecOps making those combat sheaths again? Sweet!

HM - Thats very kind of you to offer, and I would have actually gone for that had you not then posted about the Ultra-Sil. It's EXACTLY the thing I'm looking for, and what's more I can actually find them in the UK for a cracking price.

That MLD Burn is spendy, but I can see the appeal. It's like a 'modern material' equivalent of the Swiss Army Salt & Pepper pack or the Frost River Appalachian Trail. I'll just have to admire yours when you get it ;)

The Italian tops are your standard base layer thickness. I've brought one to work to weigh....8.24 oz, if that's a consideration. Here's a pic of some guy modeling one:

Let me know what you reckon amigo.

I just got some fun stuff in the mail the other day. My Nikon D700 came in along with a new Clik Elite Escape backpack. This backpack is awesome for anyone interested in photography and hiking. It is extremely comfortable, pretty light, has tons of storage for photography gear and some stuff like snacks or a change of clothes. I also got my sea to summit 20L dry bag, fire steel and magnesium rod, emberlit stove, some fat wood, a Nikon 25-85mm lens and an amazing custom made pipe & tobacco pouch by a guy I found online. I'll be going on a camping trip at the end of next week and a photography trip the following week so I'm looking forward to getting to use everything!

Haha, glad to help! I was totally focused on backpacking utility, but you're absolutely right, it would be perfect for a stowaway. It won't be the most comfortable thing and I wouldn't load very much in it, but for a compact mere 2.4oz... I think it'd do a great job.

Thanks for weighing the shirt :). It's slightly lighter than my current wool base layer (Kuiu 185 ZipT) so I don't think it'd be too hot for year round use. Worth a shot if the price is doable with the other gear upgrades I'm making this coming month... Shoot me a PM when you get a chance and we can hash out details

Edge sweet Emberlit, camera, and other gear!

I just ordered my first quality bag and am stoked that it will be here tomorrow, pics coming.
As a bonus they included a free folding knife.......:Dhow did they know :D
Does anyone have any info on what kind it could be?

Yeah, I went with tan when I bought a few pairs of those Tru-Spec 24-7 pants, so I have been buying some tan stuff for here in the South West US. As a side note, those pants are pretty cool, they are made with dividers in the cargo pockets for magazines, but I've found that my tri-fold wallet and an Altoids tin fit in one cargo pocket pretty good.

I hope this tan/coyote/desert brown/earth brown/etc. is a short lived fad. Keep in mind this is coming from someone who has a coyote brown Camelbak and wants a brown G10 PM2. Haha

Seriously, though. :p

lol, I'm used to having everything in black, so tan has been a serious change for me lately.

It's a 5.11 RUSH12 in sandstone.
5.11 is running a promo period until the end of March I believe.

Gear to get into shape, 2008 like new surly stamroller . bought off craiglist at 1/3 new cost while I was talking to the man who had it , he told me of a bike shop that had one of my dream bicycles . I had to go look, I was expecting used . It was a custom built bike from new old stock parts that had been in stock a while because they were high end top dollar componets.
There was one componet I would have done differently if I was ordering the parts and building the bike myself . after a couple offers/counter offers I walk out with my dream bike a surly long haul trucker at a steal :D

Pretty neat! I looked at this frame when I was buying a frame to build. I went with an aluminum mountain bike frame that was hard tail, then I bought a rigid fork for it. It was pretty close to yours where it was street/dirt. I went with the Continental reverse tread (town & country) tires. I wish I didn't have to part with it. Congrats on your bikes! I want to get back into cycling again soon.
