Post Up Your NEW Gear ...

Black Diamond Couloir, a minimalist harness for rappels.
Black Diamond ATC-XP, a high friction belay device. Got this mainly in anticipation of buying some 8mm static line at some point, and in case I get with some canyoneering folks on my UT trip this fall.

I guess your heading down south to the red rocks? Ill be a few hours north in the Uinta range if you head up this way shoot me an email. Nice gear man.

Thanks. I'll be at Zion. A few short rappels coming down Orderville Canyon, and another on a trail I might do, but nothing major planned. Might solo a beginner canyon or two, but would like to get with a group that has room on their permit-maybe some guys from a local UT forum I check out. I don't have the gear for bigger canyoneering routes.

nice! i have the same harness - very light but still comfortable.

as a side note: i saw your username/post in bogley while surfing there awhile back.

That is probably the best forum on the internet. I wish the hiking/backpacking section was as active as the canyoneering one. I've met a couple of people that post there without knowing who they were at the time, and have books by a couple of others.

I had some new gear, guess I need to wait for the next package to come in, I picked up a MC HPG serape, Sunday morning I awake to find my daughter has pulled it from the pack since we were planning a little hike up the Brighton lakes trail, but the rain put a stop to that with her. Instead she puts it on, wanders to her room and puts the Smurfs on her roku. Couldn't pass up the opportunity to take the photo. She reminded me a cross between a jawa and a ewok (from Star Wars for those not in the know of living under a rock the last 30 years) with the thing on. Think I have lost the thing for good, she even sleeps with it. But I have a hammock gear 0* incubator in MC and a burrow in brown coming for the Elk hunt next month. Figured I would try to hang around this year.... pun intended.

Kids do the most adorable things...

-Pearl Izumi Canyon bike shorts.
-Manzella silkweight Windstopper gloves to replace a pair I left behind on a bike trail early in the year. Wonderful gloves.
-Starter 6" performance boxer briefs-I bolded that because I've already worn them, and they are more comfortable than, and perform as well or better than, my new version UnderArmour O series Boxerjocks(which are not as comfortable to me as the older ones, though not noticeably different except the waistband styling(?)), or any of my several types of synthetic boxer briefs from Terramar, whether they be the 4 way stretch, Coolmax, or Ventilator mesh. The aforementioned are all excellent, and between them I have about 2 dozen pairs total that get used depending on the season or activity. I've no way of judging the durability of the Starter shorts, but they seem just as well made as the UnderArmour O series. Matter of fact, except for the stitching(which looks perfect, just different), and a different mesh on the front, they are practically identical to the UA Boxerjocks.
$4 at Walmart.
I took that picture several days ago, and included the Starter shorts as a joke. I really just got them on impulse, upon seeing them for the first time, for a $4 confirmation of how much better my stuff is:rolleyes: I've worn them at work under heavy fire retardant pants, and pushing a lawnmower for 2.5hrs while continuously pouring sweat, and they felt great.

I'm so glad you included this info! I've been a fan of the Ex Officio boxer briefs for a couple of years now, and recently switched to the UnderArmor version. At twenty bucks a pop, it hurts, but I have never found any underwear more comfortable. I'm a mail carrier and spend all day walking in all weather. Good quality polypro base layer clothing, merino wool socks, and the new boxer briefs have made my life much more comfortable. Finding these clothes at a value price is a plus!

Stay sharp,

Shoot, yeah. I figure for $4 they're worth a try for anybody. There are some people who have posted about using some of these Starter brand clothes on backpacking forums, and I kind of sneered at the idea of getting something from Wal-Mart, just automatically assuming they'd be crap. And they could be. For all I know, the waistband could twist or lose elasticity quick, and the stitching may be inferior despite looking fine, but they sure have made a good initial impression.
I found the UA shorts for $9.99 awhile back, and got two pair. The waistbands had finally given up on my old ones, first one, then the other, but they lasted a long time, and were my favorites for hiking and working out. I'm not sure what changed that affected the fit for me, but if these Starters do well for a little while, I'll get a bunch of them. At the price, why not? :D
btw, the Starters are true to size. I have to get a L in the UA boxer briefs, but wear a Medium in everything else. I wear 33" jeans.

Hmmm, interesting. Will have to look into trying some. I'm using the Under Armor 9" BoxerJocks now (original, not mesh), and LOVE them. Hands down best I've used thus far. They work so well on those hot, sweaty, potentially chafe-inducing hikes. Before that, I was a ExOfficio Give-N-Go boxer briefs guy.

finally snagged a bcusa ul 10'x10' tarp. these things disappear quick! the material feels more delicate than my integral designs silnylon 8'x10' (or any silnylon or ultralight tarp that i've handled) so i think i'll test it in the backyard/garden hose a few times to calm my worries :o

Nice score, I definitely want to pick up one of those one day.

thanks. the fabric is really soft (a lot like silk actually), so much so that i actually see daylight through the needle holes in the seam line when i stretch it lightly to simulate being pitched. i ended up applying two layers of seam sealer and i'll bring a bcusa 5'x7' in the first few trips just in case.

Hill People Gear Highlander with Harness and a bunch of Kifaru Pull Outs to fill it up with:

Taking it out hiking tomorrow.

Very nice.

I have been borderline obsessing over HPG packs ever since I got my kit bag recently.

What are your first impressions?
