Post Up Your NEW Gear ...

I really like it so far. I'm using the Highlander instead of a Tarahumara since I'm a big guy (with big stuff to go in it) and it fits really well. Been doing some little warm up hikes with it. Planning on doing Byers Peak with it on Saturday which is 8 miles and 3k elevation change so that'll be the first real test. I'll report back after that.

Bushcrafter by Darrin Sanders on this forum

Already put a very slight convex on it by freehanding and stropping. Makes feather sticks decently and should be good for all basic bushcraft tasks aside from cross-grain batonning or going through thick pieces of wood.

Now JV3 makes me want to get a BCUSA UL tarp... thanks. Also see you like the beef stroganoff.... ALOT. Don't think I could eat it meal after meal. I can eat the granola and blueberries every breakfast however. Will be again on the hunt. EE has MH for 40-50% off right now, so I picked up a can and will divide it amongst ziplocks. Going to toss in a little FD banana dice and honey flakes while Im at it.

My Ares belt finally finished. Almost 4 weeks to the day of purchase. Their estimates are SPOT on. Just placed another Ares order for my Xmas present from my daughter. I will have her wrap it and store it till Xmas. Then Thursday my hammock gear 0* (Yes F.... winter hammocking!), arrived. The incubator (bottom quilt) is long with 1oz overstuff and multicam, go figure! The burrow (top quilt) is made with the argon brown material, which is less than half the weight of the MC material so it saves weight and is much more soft, it is long, 1oz overstuff and has a sewn in footbox which is key in below freezing temps. The standard snap/ omnitape/ tied end is great for venting in the other 3 seasons, but you do not want to move a little and accidentally kick open the end when it is single digits out there.

Usually ground camp when below the 30s since that was the limit of my old hammock insulation, but now I am getting to winter hammock. Leave Thursday for 5 days up mirror lake highway near Whitney reservoir and Christmas meadows (8700-10700 ft elevation), they got snow earlier this week. Going to be a good time, I am so looking forward to it, first vacation this year! With my WB superfly in camo and the variety of Multicam goodies I usually use, I will be stealth camping. Picked up some orange marking tape to place around camp so a hunter does not think he seen antlers when he just seen movement. Ill post a AAR when I get back.

haha, i have a lot of beef stew already so i'm just mixing it up. the lasagna is okay too but man that cheese is like freaking glue - it's tough to clean it off the spoon in the woods.

that bcusa ul tarp leaked badly at last weekend's overnighter unfortunately so i highly recommend bringing an extra tarp until it's proven itself several times first...a whole quarter of the tarp looked like it didn't have any waterproofing at all (my trip report here: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1110892-another-overnighter-food-death-march)...i'm waiting on their silnylon instead as replacement.

nice haul!

bcusa silnylon 5'x7' - the material looks a lot more promising than my defective 10'x10' ultralight...waiting for the 10'x10' silnylon so i can test it out in the rain and risk getting wet again

JV3- have you used those tweezers yet? Every time I see a pair, I wish I knew how good they performed before picking up a pair or two.
thanks,
CH

yes, they have a lot more gripping power than the ones found in victorinox swiss army knives...i'll probably buy more soon.

Nice Becker bag, I didn't know those were out. I'll have to check into one of those.
