OK guys, I will do this a little better. First off, I am not an axe authority. I learn primarily form the senior members here and my own moderate experience. So if anyone has better info, or simply an opinion, it is welcomed. Here she goes............ All prices are Canadian and U.S. is usually less.

Top to bottom,
Fiskars X-7, $27.00
Hultafors AGDOR made by Hults Bruk, $75.00
Husqvara hatchet, $50.00, order through a Husqvarna equipment dealership, they have a great large axe also
Wetterlings #106, 75.00 a few years back, very sweet hatchet, takes a razor edge

On the right the G. Bruks small forest axe, $110.00 up here several years ago, 130 now I believe. Fantastic axe, kind of light for splitting though

Wetterlings Scandinavian axe, this company has been upping its quality in the last few years, I love this axe

Consider the Fiskars axe range. No they are not sexy and turn some folk off with the synthetic handles. But they are inexpensive and very effective. These axes also have a lifetime warranty on them. I want to hate them but I can't. I bought three.

You are welcome. You may want to research the Husqvarna general purpose axe also. The Husqvarna axes are contracted out to major Swedish makers. The heads used to be Wetterlings until recently, and now I believe that Hults Bruk makes them. Hults is the oldest and a highly respected Swedish axe maker. They go back to the 16 or 1700's I believe. You may notice similarities in the previous pictures between the Husqvarna hatchet and the Hultafors AGDOR (the town of Rodga spelled backwards) large hatchet. That's because Hults Bruk made both of them. Husky has a contract with Hults to make the Husky heads. The down side with Huskys is that they might use a ''B'' handle, still Hickory, but just not as nice. Hand pick yours or explain to the dealer that you wish for one with the wood grain oriented parallel to the axe head, or running up and down in line with the head.

I own both of those Husqvarna axes and they are among my favorites. I'd recommend purchasing them in person when possible.

The Husky Forest Axe is one of the best deals around, imo.

You could pay twice as much not get much more, except for cosmetics.

Congrats Smithhammer. That's a fine looking rig.

Thanks. It has a really nice, slim profile and rides nicely. Very secure fit as well, even without the removable hammer strap.

I've got a Frost River 'Shell Bag' on the way:

Cool, I have the general purpose axe coming in to a dealer for me. I requested that they find one with a decent handle for me. My hatchet was a little disappointing in that regard. Still enjoy the tool immensely though. If she pops, she pops I guess.

Cool. I am curious as to what make the head will be on mine. I believe that the Wetterlings (contracted) heads are gone and that they are supposed to be supplied by Hults Bruk now ? Nice handle considering, I hope that I don't get some scraggly Popsicle stick.

I love these field bags. This one reminds me of some of the bags from October Country I used to sell. "Possibles bag" is a good name for them. They hold just about any of the small things one might need while afield. Better if they have a wide shoulder strap for me because I sometimes tend to load them heavier than really needed.

Agreed. I've started using them for lots of outdoor trips where I'm not really carrying enough stuff to warrant a backpack. And I can get to the things I need without having to take it off, either. Another bonus is that I have can have various things on my belt, and a bag like this doesn't interfere the way that a backpack waist strap would.

You can't see it in that previous pic, but these Frost River bags come with a thicker/wider shoulder pad:

I've owned a few other things from FR, and quality has always been through the roof.

I picked up a wool haversack from Bison Gear a few years back, and use it all the time for stump shooting with my bow, small game hunting, etc. Works great in combo with a side quiver, a firearm on my strong side hip, etc.

My latest acquisitions. I've had a chance to take them all out and use them a few times and they're all preforming nicely.

Black diamond mittens. Love these, they're so warm. Recently had a chance to try them out in really cold weather and my hands were toasty. Which for me is saying something (I have poor circulation to my hands)

Sawyer .1 micron hollow fiber membrane water filter. 1 million gallon guarantee!! Super light, durable and quick to use.

Outdoor belt. Belt itself is made from 50 feet of para cord, buckle is snare wire, and the pin has a ferro rod laminated to it. Hopefully I never need to use it!

Been looking for a small pocket pouch, to carry a few EDC items in. Came across this earphone pouch posted on the EDC forum. Worked perfectly for what I wanted it for.

And a little cash stash in the zippered section:

Definitely a handsome and useful looking bag. I could have used one of those back in my duck\goose hunting days. You have to get at those shell quickly sometimes.

Cool. I have taken an axe accident a little more seriously as of late. So I'm bringing a Maxpedition hip pouch with some heavy duty aid in it.
