FR Shell Bag arrived today. I was worried it might be bigger than I wanted, but it's perfect for my needs. Glad I didn't go any smaller. :thumbup:

Cool! After some use you may well decide to replace the buckle with a finial. They have worked well with my field bags. And they allow for one handed opening and closing.

Yeah, good suggestion. Took it on a hike this morning and it worked great. The leather on the strap is good quality but not too stiff and thick. I was able to open and close it pretty easily with one hand as is. I have to say again - this is the perfect size. I can even fit a 64oz. beer growler in it. :D :thumbup:

Much better than the haversack with it's single compartment. And so far at least, it looks cool enough to wear around town. A "murse". ;) No doubt it will earn it's marks from field use soon enough though.

Handsome and useful bag. Toss a few head shot bunnies in there and it will be broken in. :)
 
I had a Husqvarna axe come in today, I like it. Lighter than I though and the edge\bit is thin also, which surprised me. I think that it will be a good one.

Ha - I hope to make that happen soon. With the warm temps we're having right now, I'm hoping the snow will all melt and leave a bunch of white hares running around, thinking they still blend in...:D

Which model is that? I've got one coming in tomorrow along with my Bark River Kephart which is a day late.

I sold off my firearms years ago and I'm unsure if I want to go through the semi pain in the rear to get back into them again. There is no legal impediment, just hassle\paper work. Dunno, but I sure did find great fun in huntin' wabbits. It is so much simpler and easier than migratory birds and deer. I did all of them at one time or another.

Sorry buddy but I can't keep it straight. Sometimes it's called the Traditional axe, or Outdoor axe and maybe one other name. It's the large Husqvarna anyway. I'm a cheap S.O.B. and any time that I can find a deal I'm all over it like a fly on lawn sausage. You can pay twice as much (up here anyway) for a G-Bruks, and it WILL be better. But here you are still getting a really good working axe made by a famous Swedish manufacturer, and steel\heat treat, with something like this. Put in a special request in regard to the handle or they will grab the nearest axe on the pile and send it off to you, for better or worse. My Husky hatchet handle sucks a bit but I didn't put in any selection request. It will probably be fine but I'm anal that way.
 
My axe came today and I hope I looks as nice as yours Upnorth. I'm up north at the cabin for another day. My Kephart seems to be lost though. 😡
 
Current Husqvarna axes are made by Burks.
Only real difference is spit and polish, and anyone can do that at home with a bit of spare time, you got a better deal then you knew :)

Right after we shoot them.. Skin, gut, remove head and toss in plastic grocery bags then into coat/game pouch.. Nice and neat with no blood mess.. John

Sweet. Looks like a light weight set up. My axe sucked up boiled linseed oil (thin coats and a day or two dry time between), like a drunken sailor. My Hults AGDOR handle will barely take the oil. It was explained to me that the handles with denser wood take the oil up much more slowly and lightly. Still lovin' the big Husky though. I had a thought flash between my two brain cells to cut the Husky down to hatchet size. I'll wait and see, I haven't even used the flippin' thing yet !, lol.

I know that it is hard to keep these names straight. I am learning on the fly myself. To the best of my knowledge this is how it sits. There is Gransfors Bruk, producer of the semi famous small forest axe, which means nothing, anybody can call a small axe the same thing. But the company IS top shelf. There is Hults Bruk, a famous axe maker in Sweden since the late 1700's and also a high quality producer. Hults is contracted by Husqvarna to make the Husky axe heads. The Husky heads used to be made by Wetterlings until just a few years ago. Wetterlings has improved in the last few years with new ownership. They are also a great Swedish axe company considered a hair below G-Bruk. They changed their head stamp in the last year or two. If any of this is wrong, feel free to correct me.
 
I sanded the logo off and I've applied a couple coats of Watco oil which it's not sucking up very well any more. It's looking real good. Love the character of it.

The tent is light enough for me. I'd rather carry a little extra weight and be comfortable at my age. Plus my kids can sleep in it when we do the family trips which leaves the wife and I alone in the big tent:thumbup:
