I have never been a huge fan of tanto style blades. This one, an old Cold Steel 6 inch is probably the only one that I now have.
I bought it for a song in an antique shop. Mint, never used.

I'm not usually a tanto fan, but when I saw this I had to grab it. It was the limited edition type that was offered for a short time by True North. "Dynamic Tip" is what I think it was called. I think it sort of looks samurai-ish.

not going to lie, blades like that one are really nice looking. the subtle curve of the main hollow ground part, then the visible transition into the convex ground tip. I personally can think of a bunch of blade profiles more useful to me for Edc, but they look nice.

If you can't find an old recon 1, The WARN barrage is pretty sexy too.

I EDC'd the recon 1 for quite a while. It has had a very hard life.

Colored spacer on the WARN.

And my favorite Tanto.

My only Tantos: a (re-profiled) CRKT Hammond ABC and an Emerson CQC-7

Man those are gorgeous....

What is it that you guys like about tanto blades? I've never really understood them but went ahead and bought a ZT 0700 because I wanted to try out a ZT and the 0700 was so cheap. I've got a CRKT Ultima that is a tanto and I just don't get the appeal.

How do you like the ZT0700? It's not nearly as stout as most of the ZT's, but it's still nice. It's quite sharp for a ZT (the blade is thinner).
I like the design except for one, the tip up only carry, and for two, the blade itself stops short and the gap hangs up when cutting.

For me, I feel the design / tip of a tanto makes for a better utility knife. I prefer the tanto blade profile to a more traditional rounded profile. This is just my personal preference. I also like the straight cutting edge that's on most tanto's.

I currently do not own any "true" tanto's - They're all Americanized which is fine. I plan on getting the reincarnation of the Bob Lum Tanto when it's released here soon. I missed out on getting one years ago. I will most definitely get one this time. I'm almost glad I missed the AUS8 one...I'd much rather have VG10.

My favorite is becoming the ZT 0700 on the top. I didn't have a picture of it alone, so it is shown with it's cousin the 121.
The 0700 flips great and is a good slicer. I have only been carrying it for a week though. The only other tantos that I have are a Zing Tanto and an Emerson CQC 7

Sorry I don't have a separate pic, but I really like the Ka-Bar full size tanto in the center of this group of knives. I don't like my S&W Border Guard tanto on the top right though.

No pic, but I think I read somewhere that Tanto blades originally weren't "tanto" because of the blade shape. I forget where I heard it and why. ARFCOM maybe?

The chisel like tip if the "Americanized tanto" if it looks like a broken sword tip it's a "Japanese tanto". Ther are many many many styles of tanto in Japan.
