Post Your Gift Exchange Presents!

can someone coach me as to how to submit photo's?

Hey B. I'll try, since i would love to see the new (old) lure. though, the directions might be different between membership levels...not sure.

you got the tags right (i.e. "IMG"), but what is in between does not look like a valid file. you need to reference an image file (e.g. .jpg). i upload my photos to a public photo site (e.g. flickr), then i reference the URL to that pic. Look at the examples from others' posts. i.e. do a "Reply With Quote" and take a look at what's in there.

feel free to email me about it if you want more info. i think there may be some info in the "tech help" section, as well (not sure exactly what they call that subforum). might even want to try an advanced search on "How to upload a pic", or something like that.

good luck.

Hi B -

First you have to get your picture hosted on the web - you can't post pictures that are on your local computer only. Picasa is a good free site, there are several others that are free and easy to use.

Once you have your image hosted, that is to say that you have copied your image file "up" to the hosting server, you need to capture the address of the image, or the "url" (universal resource location).

For instance - I have images on picasa, here is the url of one of my images -

https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-Fig8V19Ycn4/TJaRPB3OI6I/AAAAAAAABm4/U86sCGymjKM/s829/DSC_3760.JPG

as it is pasted in this post, you see the url, which the forum software automatically treats a clickable web link to view my image.

In order to tell the forum software to show the picture instead of linking to it, you have to surround the image url with "image tags" - or markup tags to tell the forum how to interpret the image.

Here is the image url with image tags -

[img]https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-Fig8V19Ycn4/TJaRPB3OI6I/AAAAAAAABm4/U86sCGymjKM/s829/DSC_3760.JPG[/img]

Notice the start tag, then the end tag has the "/" in front - each tag has a start and end pair.

Following is how the image is displayed using a hosted file url and the image tags -

I hope that was not too confusing. ;^)

best
