I just recently had the good fortune of placing my first order for a JK knife/kit and it had made me think.

John and I had exchanged quite a few emails just trying to pin point a blade shape. That is when it struck me! If only we had a parent thread where we could show our knives and list what was on it (scale material, liner, blade shape). If for no other reason but to show off our current JK knives and ease future orders.

Say post 14 had a Knecker with black micarta and orange liners and 15 had a clipped Element in the same scale set up, one could see how they looked and reference actual post numbers to make it easier when stating what one likes for their own order.

There has to be enough JKs out there to get a wide array of posts showing the variety offered for us to drool over and draw inspiration for our next knives while making it easier for John to physically see what we want.

The scales of post 9, blade shape of post 23, no sharpening notch like post 12, and I really like how those liners looked in post 7.

What are your thoughts?

Bill K.

Always like an excuse for pictures thread, but have you seen the "picture thread" sticky? how would we make it different?

In the mean time, I'll post pictures :)

JK Toby's knife in Zircote and silver pins, flat grind

JK Toby's knife in walnut, flat grind, brass pins (on bottom) sorry it's the cleanest picture I have of it right now

Just like this, grind/blade shape, type of knife, scale material and photo. The picture thread is Great, but unless I luck out and someone names the knife, or stated the scale material, I am out of luck. That is where this thread would come into play, essentially a list of knives with photos and what exactly makes up that particular knife.

Ky, are those called a spear tip or drop point? Prior to your posting, I didn't know they were available in flat or saber ground. That is a perfect example of why I feel that this thread should exist.

This spot is reserved for the posting of my set up.

I think of it as a modified drop point, but who knows,

thing about John's knives, he'll do any grind or handle combo on a knife design...even if you come up with a completely new knife design. So, he does these grinds on all the knives.

Not real sure exactly what this blade shape is, but I'd call it an upswept skinner.

Hi Bill -

Have you checked out the specs pages on John's web site?

While there is a wealth of information there regarding what he offers and hints at what he can put together, I feel there is more to offer than what is listed. John doesn't seem to have the time to invest into the website over completing orders.

The #9 might be a semi wharncliffe, but it isn't listed, so I can't tell for sure.
The galleywag and cutlass aren't in there
The USK isn't listed, same with CBWoods modified wharncliffe/sheepsfoot.

My point being is that aside from custom jobs which would be incredibly difficult to keep on top of, in regards to the website. Is that it is a mighty powerful tool, in being able to actually see something as opposed to just envisioning it.

With John being willing and capable of taking what is in your head and making it a reality, being able to actually see a sliver of his capabilities in a real, photographic version makes it that much easier. Plus, acting as an inspiration to other designs that we haven't thought up yet
