Now that we have the new Kabar tweener sheaths, and given the universal law that no factory item is perfect, what have you done to yours?

Nick dyed his, and tossed some eyelets...

I dressed mine up a bit with some paracord and accessory cord. Shortened the overall length by folding up the part with the eyelets and gluing it. Removed the liner, taped a pin to the sheath to create retention. Added a skull patch for some flair...

Anyone else modded theirs yet?

Thanks Tanner! I also took out the liner and bent it a little. that's all I did.

nope. I have had it in a box since I got it.

I been thinking about using it like a ESEE MOLLE back for a 16 kydex sheath...or attempting that

I'm gonna try and mod mine after I get back from Virginia next weekend, I don't want to mod it and then not be able to carry it, and I need to pick up some stainless hardware for both Becca and her factory pants, that means screws and rivets.

I like the sheath, but I'll probably end up going for some kydex or leather pants. I'd like to find something to mount a TDI clip to so I can just pick it up, slip it on my belt and go. Also I hate how much longer than necessary it is.

I would LOVE a break down of this mod because I would like to attempt to duplicate it.
Either that or send me your sheath and I will replace it with mine ..lol

Thanks guys!

You can see everything i chopped off in the above pic. I personally just thought it was too long for this sized knife. I really like the outcome, so much so i just found another one that someone didnt want so i could cut up and use for my ESEE 4.

After trimming everything i didnt like i folded the top part back and buttoned the top bottom to what use to be the bottom molle strap button. I used E-6000 fabric/hobby glue from walmart and some potato chip clips to help with a good bond. Then for more strength i sewed around the edges. You can see in this pic that the bottons lined up for a perfect size belt loop.

For the bottom i used part of the original molle strap to cover the edge where the bottom of the kydex insert is. I used glue and sewed it again.

I have about 3 hours into it, most of that is time for the glue to dry.

I copied. SLIGHTLY different, but only from stuff I already did. I REALLY like this one. I don't feel the need to resheath it so much now. I like the high-ride option this offers..

(Always use Loctite Super Glue in the blue bottle...accept no substitute! You wont need to do any sewing)

I cut the top snap off yesterday. I felt it was more in the way than anything.

Looks good!

I've tried a Loctite glue on nylon but i didnt like how it bleeds through. The E-6000 is pretty tough and didnt have any affect on the nylon, but i wanted to practice my sewing skills anyway. Its maybe the second time i've used a needle and thread in the last 20 years so i figured what the heck.

yay finally I can post a "mod" :)

busted out the rothco sewing kit and tried to follow along. just need to add the strap cover on the bottom like blt-2-drg did. I took off the snap strap to reverse it but dang if I didn't sew it back on the same way - DOH! sewed the sheath only in the middle so have 2 options to belt high(er) or low and wear it tip up on the support side if want - just spin the Hawaii badge around (tried to make the Becker less intimidating). also want to rit dye it OD :)

I know what you mean. I haven't used a needle and thread for a while my self :D ;)

Has anyone removed the top retention snap and regretted it?

I'm thinking about doing it since my production BK16 seems to have noticeably better retention with only the bottom strap than the FPR did.

Maybe it's the slightly thicker coating? Of course that won't help if I ever strip the thing... hmmm....
