Post your sheath mods!!

Heating doesn't help but very temporarily. Just wrap some electrical tape around the liner a few turns.

The final version of my BK16 sheath. There's nothing more I can do to the poor thing except maybe sew the opening to the butt of another sheath, then sew the opening of yet another to the butt of the last one...

Dyed black with Fiebings Black Leather dye (alcohol based dyes work best on nylon), velcro added for a new flag patch. Takes a while to properly dry, just put it on a shelf in your workshop and forget about it for a day.

Is there a source for the flag and skull patches?

slik

The flag patches that fit the sheath are off those "Tactical Pocket Organizers" originally made by SpecOps and knocked off by every Tactical knock off brand...found at places like Cheaper than Dirt. Just google "Tactical Pocket Organizer" and you'll trip over them. I use them for my New Trent Power Packs for my Android.

The skull used to be a TadGear patch I cut.

I actually need to go buy some new patches for my bags and sheaths. Going to get some of those bladeforums wilderness survival patches, and need to send an envelope to Ethan for some Beckerhead patches.

That came out really nice!! The Skull looks awesome as well!
Glad the dye worked out for you.

Just got this knife a few days ago, first thing I did was mod the sheath. I've done mine sort of like Dexwithers, but a little different. Brought the pocket as far up as I could get it. I got rid of the rounded bottom and squared it off. Got rid of the top buckle. Got rid of the molle strap because I don't have anything that uses molle. Also brought down the belt loop around 2 inches.

I plan on dying it black soon, and I'll post some pictures after that, but here it is still in the original color.

My BK7 is one of my favorite Beckers. Either first, or second, maybe third, but it is up there and I really enjoy using it.

The factrory sheath has never been one of its strong suits. Very useable but it needed something done to it. I saw IA Woodsman make his BK17 sheath into a dangler and thought I would do the same to the BK7 sheath, here are the pics, pretty self explanatory.

Original,

Here I cut a slit into the Dring, and shaved off a bit of one corner so that corner would slide thru both factory installed grommets already in sheath.

In this photo, I have already ripped the factrory threads out, where the top of the sheath folds over, laid it out flat, and will start the Dring in through the grommets

Sewing.

I decided to use brown thread here instead of black, because I didn't have any :). I used heavy waxed leather sewing thread.

I then sewed a piece of nyon webbing to make the belt loop, Didn't take any pics of that, here it is ready to try out.

This sheath will still work like a regular belt sheath, just depends where you put the belt through. Should make a nice dangler.

Thanks for looking, thought I might share the process.

Not really stock sheath mods, but here are a couple I slapped together a few weeks ago.

Laser strike factory sheath, ESEE pouch, and again a Bianchi holster extender. This one is was a second attempt, so it looks a little better.

Thanks for looking.

Using alcohol based dye gets a thumb down from me. :thumbdn:

I used the Feiblings(sp?) USMC black on my BK16 sheath. Looks great but... I did this about a month and half ago, so it's had plenty of time to dry, but this stuff rubs off easily. I have the brown handles on the knife, and the snap retainer leaves black marks on the handle. If I take a piece of folded white paper and rub the edge on it, it leaves black marks on it. No way I would wear this against my clothes. I've washed it several times in hot water and soap, but still leaves marks. It doesn't leave marks if just touched, but if something rubs on the sheath it gets marked.

Now I'm trying to get up with Kabar to see if I can order another sheath.

Did you was by hand or in a washing machine? You have to get all excess dye off. I have had no problems with mine and get no rub off what so ever.

Thats a leather dye. You need to use Rit

Do you use the leather dye on nylon? I havent tried it but the guy that did says its rubs off??????

I tried many different dyes and the alcohol leather dye worked perfect for me. Did not only my tweener sheath but a couple sets of kabar micarta. Trick is washing it after really good. I get no rub off on any of my stuff. Need to wet whatever you are dying since the dye needs the water or something to work right.

I'll try to dye another sheath this weekend and give an update on the process.

But the rit dye just didn't cut it for my needs.

Every cut I made to this I did with the 16. I'm just no good at sewing, so anything I put back together I used Loctite Pro CA glue.
I went a little overboard. It rides too high, and I often wish I had kept the pouch.

No matter, though. Now I have some leather awesomeness from Psyop; and the self-handled EnZo Trapper in my avatar actually sits in this one pretty well. Plus, the belt loop location is perfect for hooking it up to pegboard in the garage.

when I got my 17 the first thing I did was a leather scout. Then I did a blue kydex. Still not satisfied, I butchered a stock BK4 sheath, stuffed the kydex in it and bolted it down, works for me now!

took off the insert, cut down to below the pouch but still retaining the back strap, then glued a strip of the siding to the bottom with crazy glue before stitching. A piece of the insert was cut to fit the bottom as the kydex sheath didnt reach all the way down and the holes were made for the screws. Straps were cut off and 2 eyelets added at the bottom.
