I went to 6 Flags over TX several years ago. They have metal detectors at the entrances, which I was unaware of. They prohibit concealed carry, but I saw and read nothing about knives.

I had a Spyderco Police and a CS mini-tanto (fixed blade) with me, both TX legal.

The little old lady at the security checkpoint had all kinds of heatburn with my tanto, but didn't give my Police a second look, even though it's almost an inch longer, OAL.

She asked me "Don't you know any better than to bring something like THIS to a place where there are children?!"

Same thing almost happened to me at the Six Flags in Jersey. I wasnt aware of the metal detectors so I got my friends keys and put my knives(mini grip and Para) in the car. I got back and my friends looked at me like I was crazy. Oh well they know me well enough now.

I was at Applebees...and I whipped out my Extra Large Espada to cut the string that was hanging off the sweater of an old lady at the next table...and she freaked!

Sheeple! What is their problem?

That's a joke, right?

... because if you were at Applebees with me and you just randomly reached over into my table with a knife to cut a string hanging off of my sweater, I'd freak out and possibly put a gun in your face, myself.

If you want to convince people that knives are useful tools and encourage people to welcome your use and carrying of those tools, a good first step would be to stop ACTING LIKE A TOOL and using overused and played out goofy little pun insults to describe people who don't have the same perspective as you.

Some guys I used to work with would kinda freak everytime I waved my Ti-Lite out of my pocket.
When I first started there, at the time I wasn't used to working around alot of people, so it just came natural.
Didn't even think about the knife getting attention. When I needed it, out it came quick as a wink.

Even after I stopped carrying it (broke the tip) they would ask me why I didn't have my "cool knife" on me.

i had a leatherman mini on my key chain and i was going to traffic court. so i put it in the bin with all my stuff before i went through the metal detector and a cop just grabs it off my keys and throws it away. I was like, um can i have that back? Cop: nope. So i was a little pissed because it was a gift from my father who passed away a few years ago. So i gave him a peace of my mind and got the guy in charge. so they gave it back. then i gave it to my girlfriend to hold outside of the court house. They went outside and got it and threw it away again........... I was a little confused. So after some more arguing i got it out of the trash again....and put it in my car. Its not even a damn weapon. whats wrong with people.

Luckily I have never had people freak when I use knife. However during army when I had Ka-Bar USMC strapped on belt during excercise that did however made few eyebrows rise since biggest blade there after my Ka-Bar was 4" puukko. I didn't own hatchet so Ka-Bar was extremely useful since for some reason, even in woods platoon had only 1 or 2 axes sure i could have used field shover, but a big knife was handier and since our field shovels were made of what they were, Ka-bar was heavier, giving better results as hatchet.

Still... Perhaps the eyebrow rising thing was because I was field medic and carried biggest knife in excercises than anyone else out of 983 men.

I have never had a problem. And I use my knife as often as possible any where I am and quite a bit while in public. I also have shiny pocket clips sticking out of every pocket and live in a liberal college town. If you calmly take out your knife, use it, and put it away it seems no one is bothered by it, at least not around here.

I guess I did get suspended from high school in the mid 90's for having a little 2" blade lock back in my back pack. But the principal didn't like me and was searching me for no reason anyway so I'm sure she would have suspended me for anything she could come up with. It seemed like she freaked out to me and my parents.

One time someone asked "...where I got that machette from" when I was using it to cut something.

I make it pretty readily known that knives are tools and not weapons if someone ever asks me why I have one. I don't use it gratuitously, have it out opening it, or... anything weird.

I don't get many remarks.

This is wrong. It's not your responsibility. If someone reached over, even if it's with good intention, and cut a string from my clothes... Use better judgement, kid.

+1 :thumbup: I'm a pretty liberal guy in regards to a few things, but hey, call a spade, a spade as the saying goes. Sheeple are exactly as you defined.
Plus, I really don't think that sheeple even know we call them that.

You mindlessly follow a herd too, just a different one - the kind of herd that likes to judge everyone who doesn't have a knife, and thinks political affiliation has ANYTHING AT ALL to do with whether one carries and uses knives.


It has nothing to do with being PC, and everything to do with not being a closed minded jerk who likes to trash everyone who disagrees with whatever little club you are in. And you ARE following a little club when you use that little club's cute little phrases to describe the people who aren't like you.

Nail nick knives help toning down aggressiveness of knife as does bright color. Nobody reacts when I use full sized trapper with bright red orange smooth bone scales. Slipjoints are good knives to use when among people. One reason I carry a slipjoint and a one hand open knife.

I didn't use the word. I just said I think it is ridiculous to get your panties in a wad over a word that is descriptive and not hateful or degrading. You act like people are slinging around racial slurs. There is also absolutely nothing political with the word or with anything anyone has said. Your knee jerk over reaction somehow brought political affiliation with it. BTW the term PC has nothing to do with actual politics.

And you don't know me. I don't follow any kind of trend and I'm not a closed minded jerk. I'm an open minded jerk. I like knives which is why I am here and about all that you can deduce from me participating here. Even if I were using the word 'sheeple' that does not make me part of a group. It makes me a person using a word that describes the way a person acts without having to explain it.

Exactly! It's like teenagers who want nothing more than to be a 'non-conformist' - by wearing lots of black and trying to look exactly like every other 'non-conformist' .

Some people carry a knife, some don't. No need to go and make it a sectarian thing.
