After many years of focusing on fixed blade knives, I decided to try a couple of nice folders in 2017. I bought a small Sebenza and Large Inkosi based on CRK’s reputation and some stellar reviews. While I can’t fault the quality of CRK’s knives in any way, they were not a perfect ergonomic fit for me.

With money in my Paypal account from selling the CRK’s, I began an open-minded search for folder(s) that were highly rated and likely to fit my hand size (i.e. “standard large glove”.) I had never seriously considered Spyderco before, but after much internet research, i decided to look for the then recently discontinued Slysz Bowie back in October 2017. I had several failed attempts to buy one from dealers who falsely claimed to have them in stock. That led me to buy a lightly used one the resale market. Shortly thereafter, one turned into two. I also acquired a Shaman & SpydieChef. I let go of the Shaman because I didn’t care for the handle length to cutting edge ratio. Next came a Gayle Bradley gifted to me by a great friend. Finally, I added a used Techno to the mix based on liking the other Marcin Slysz / Spyderco collaborations. That is how I got to this point in four short months.

Here are a few shots of my current collection.

This Spyderco Techno was on loan to me from a dear Blade Forum friend to check out the cutting prowess of the convex edge he recently put on it with his Wicked Edge sharpening system. While I typically am not drawn to small knives due to my larger hand size, I was impressed by how the handle design provided a secure purchase, along with how Spyderco executed the overall design. I am now patiently waiting for the Techno 2 to surface so I can add it to my growing collection of Slysz designed Spyderco's. While I didn't have the benefit of a before & after cutting experience, the performance of the new convex edge was simply awesome !
