That makes sense. Mine was carried a lot by a previous owner, but still in great condition. Heavy things. I had to oil and work the heck out of it to get the blade moving up to standards, then pressed the back lock and ... watch out forefinger. I'll have to remember that o_O
Happy to hear you got it working good again. The old stainless models seem to me made very well. I only have the two in the picture, but no blade play, and both drop shut sooooo smoothly.
