Posted for Uncle Bill and Foxjaw. Beautiful Pic!!!!

YVSA,

Great ad. But, what are we going to tell them when they call in for one of those? Wouldn't it work better with a HI Kothimoda.

n2s

BTW, where can I get one just like that? ;) :D :)

...that Hanshee is a "one of a kind"...We all know it isn't available.. And we-all don't care (us'ns neither) WE ALL WANT ONE :( :p  (and Yvsa's other smiley that he couldn't show because this is a family show).

I agree with Uncle Bill, it is a good point. But.......

And Foxjaw did do some fantastic work on the ad!!!!!
I wish I could manipulate a photo program like that!!!!!!!:D

As far as telling folks something it's really pretty simple methinks.
I don't know if one could get that kind of engraving on Ivory Micarta, but I believe the Newaris probably have that kind of talent if one is willing to pay for it.:)

The khukuri itself would be even easier methinks. Stand back and take a good look at it.
It isn't anything except a really nice Gelbu SPecial that's in the Fully Curved Style rather than the modern shouldered style they presently come in.
The khukuri pictured has the same beautiful single fuller the GS has!!!!!
I believe the BirGhorka Kami's could come up with a similar stamp for the decoration along the spine.
Again the bottom line is what one is willing to pay for
it.
And we've pretty much proven that the price on some of the Khukuri/Falcata, Khukuri/Tarwar, Khukuri/Katana belies much objection to the cost.
I mean look at the Fancy Falcata at $325.00, The H.I.Kothimoda at, (I can't remember, but wasn't all that bad.) The Tawar and Katanas aren't all that costly even in their most costly outfits.

Amd somehow I get the feeling that Bura, anyway, could make this khukuri by just looking at the picture.
Maybe even Sanu or Kesar? The BirGhorka Kami's *are* the *Finest in the World*!!!!!!!

Anyone else think different?:)
(That Bura could make the khukuri.)

(And don't forget. I am just an innocent bystander who was asked to post the pic.:p  :)

Hey Guys

Thanks for the vote of approval on the poster. I snagged the hanshee pic off of the FAQ. Hope nobodys mad. Anyway, It should make for some nice wallpaper on your desktop. As far as having Bura make some of those hanshees. I believe I could make a good proto type in wood to send over. I think the handle could be done in bone, and antiqued to have a richer apperance. Also the fancy carving on the handle and the fancy sheath could be omitted to reduce the cost. Anyway you'll have to talk Uncle into it. Only he knows the feasibilty of it.

Foxjaw

PS: We could call it the Hanshee-Banshee :D

Now THAT would be a SCREAMER :D Wood or horn handle, no problem, but the engraving on the blade MUST stay :)

I have no doubt that there is a market for high end knives. Selling a $1000+ khukuri can be done, as long as the workmanship and materials are what they should be. That means absolutely perfect grind lines, excellent balance, and a 100% pure bred ivory handle. The sheath and the rest of the rig has to be up to the same standard.

Foxjaw,
Nice job on the art, but I think you should have checked with Howard before using any images from the FAQ. The fact that it is my knife is of another concern, but perhaps you didn't know that.

"It isn't anything except a really nice Gelbu SPecial that's in the Fully Curved Style..." YVSA, I must disagree with you. This is a thin blade that is well worked and made. If one left off the unique engraving, the finely carved ivory grip and made it a little thicker you would have a copy of a hanshee that may or may not have the balance and finesse of this nice old kukri.

Sorry about the pic of the hanshee. I didnt know who owned what. If you have Khukri pics that you would like turned into posters let me know out there so I dont get in trouble :(

Since the pix ended up right back here where it started I don't think a lot of harm has been done but it is always a good idea to get permission before using a pix from any site.

And from an ad point of view it's better to put up something that we actually make. If I took a model to Nepal and stayed in the shop while Bura or Sanu was working on the project we could come up with a khukuri that could double for John's. The kamis of BirGorkha are just as good or better than the kamis of 150 years ago -- and have better tools. Of course, forget the ivory.

But the concept and execution of the ad is top flight work as far as I can tell and that's the reason it was posted. To get some feedback.

Thanks for the consolation Uncle. I wasnt sure who owned what and thought it would all be going for "the cause" I'll do lots of asking next time. Lots.

Anyway, If there is desire I could get on a wood proto type of a hanshee I thought that beautiful arc and engraving on the blade was really great and would make a fine addition to the portfolio of HI Khukries

foxjaw, great work. Change the Khuk to something the H.I. Carries like the YCS and I think you'll have it made.

P.S. I really like that Doubble fullered Khuk the Ghorka has. :)

Well hell John how was I supposed to know that?
Didn't mean to ruffle yer feathers.

To me the khuk looks like a real nice Gelbu Special that has been tweaked into an old style khuk with some dayumed extra nice decoration.
I mean after all I said,
"Stand back and take a good look at it.

I guess I should've used 'looks like' instead of 'It isn't anything except..' And then told everyone explicitly to use their imaginations.
Sheesh.

I also wrote this at the bottom of my post.

(And don't forget. I am just an innocent bystander who was asked to post the pic."

Please accept my apologies for posting it for Foxjaw.

Nothing has ever been said before about posting pix or anything else out of the FAQ's here on the H.I.Forum.:(

I thought that was a YCS the Gorkha was holding.

Bro I never noticed that before, but you're exactly right!!!! The khuk the Ghorka is holding does look like a YCS!!!!
If I had of looked and known that before I started to work on the YCS design it would/could have saved me a lot of hours work!!!! LMRRAO!!!!!
I might've even got the fullers right instead of Sanu having to improve on the model I made. Sometimes their 'improvements' are right on the mark. It certainly was with the YCS model.:D
