I'm looking for a bladesmith/knife maker/small company, preferably a veteran owned business to collaborate on a project. I'm testing the feasibility to create a numbered run of 250-500 knives with a certain theme. The main push will be a fund raising effort, so these will be nice blades, the engraving will give them the theme. Looking for a fixed blade combat/hunter/military style knife (bladesmith's choice for the shape - figure likely need to sub out initial cutting to a water jet unless you have one...), brass bolsters up front, a few choices of materials for handles. Keep the choices simple and manageable but give the buyer an opportunity to "create" the look of their knife. I run a small engraving shop and would engrave the brass bolsters on both sides with 2 different custom crests and then wording and a design on the blade. These blades will be numbered and boxed with a certificate signed by the knife maker and myself.
Based on my research I'm certain selling 500 custom knives will be doable, with the potential for a second run. Price point still being researched but a lot depends on the quality and attractiveness of the product- this will be a premium knife with attractive engravings and looking to capitalize on the uniqueness to raise money for the gift. Knife maker will receive a lot of exposure within the West Point and military community. I'm looking for a reliable, skilled craftsman who has the ability, infrastructure and contacts to procure needed materials and stay the course for the duration of the project. I will handle all the orders, forward them to the maker, maker creates and finishes the knives, forward to me for engraving, I package and ship to customer. I'd prefer a small to mid size, veteran owned shop who's looking to break into a larger project and gain exposure. Prefer not to use a large company, although options and cost are drivers and using a larger company is not ruled out. Posting here to try and find ideas, contacts and possibly someone who can build some love and freshness into this project. Hoping to help someone's business while helping West Point and my own engraving shop.
I'm a 1994 West Point Graduate and a former EOD Tech. I now run a small engraving business. This project has the goal of raising funds for a gift being given to West Point by my class for our 25th reunion. The knife will have the West Point Crest, my Class Crest on the bolsters and other West Point significant engravings on the blade. I am licensed by West Point to use all logos, crests, designs and trademarked materials.
If you know anyone who may have interest in assisting with this project PM me and we'll start up a conversation.
