potter's wheel to horizontal disk grinder conversion

My wife has an electric potter's wheel she won't be using and I thought I might cannibalize it to build myself a killer low speed horizontal grinder. It looks like I could just remove the large potter's disk and replace it with a 9" disk. (that way if I get in trouble, I can fix it back!) It has a foot pedal to control the speed and she tells me it's got a reversing switch for left handed potters, AND it's designed for wet environment so I can wetsand with it. Sounds feasable to me. Whatchathink?

Has anyone tried this successfully?

sounds like a killer idea. i have been thinking of fixing up a way to spray mist on my vertical sander so i can grind wet to cut down on hot sparks.
