Hi Y'all,
I have a blade I want to mount onto a handle.
The blade itself is a Puronvarsi and the description is this:
So rather than trying to file some nickel silver stuff to fit it since it has the strange grind I thought it might be easier to pour a bolster onto it.
I'm using a 1 and 1/8" buffalo horn round for the handle. I also wanted to use one of the vulcanized thick red spacers under the bolster.
So can anyone tell me if the pewter that the knife making supplies sell is tough enough to use as a bolster? Can I pour it on top of the spacer material or will the heat soften the epoxy? Should I use some heat resistant adhesive?
How is the best way to finish the top of the bolster once it cools?
I talked to a blacksmith a while back who claimed that he just wrapped the handle in sandpaper and poured the pewter in? Will this work? I had considered just cutting a 1 and 1/8" hole in some wood, draping it over the horn even with the blade edges and then pouring it in.
Any suggestions??

Yrjo Puronvarsi blades are hammered out of old Krupp carbonsteel, and are unique with their rombic transversal section,
i. e. they are thickest in the middle where the grindline begins.
