Now I won't claim to be the first person to ever do this. because it's simple enough that it's surely been done before, BUT I've never seen it on BFC, so it's worth a post.

This is a reciprocating saw blade, ground down to fit within a 1/4" drilled hole. It opens up those blocks for hidden tangs like a champ.

Now if there were just a painless way to slot guards. :D

Made one using a bi metal blade about 4yrs ago. Silver soldiered to a 3/8" rod. Still using it.

on the painless (well almost)way to slot gaurds, I drill the apropate size holes(using a drillpress)then, up the speed on the press and change the bits out for an 1/8" carbide bur to remove the remaining material. works great with brass& ns havent tryed S.S as of yet, hope this helps.

Jigsaw blades usually require less grinding if you can find ones long enough.
You can even stack them up to get a wider cut.
Before I heard of this trick I made a couple of keyhole rasps out of 0-1 which work very well too.

Oops, should have mentioned that the fun part of this is letting the reciprocating saw do the cutting too!
That is, instead of doing it slowly by hand.
