Hello,

I am fairly new to knife making, been lurking for some time and started making knives a few months ago. So far I made 3 knives that I will post as soon as I figure out how. I made my second knife out of old chainsaw blades that I forged and hammered by hand.

Now I am trying to make a billet using 1080 and 15n20. I know that a press would be the best tool to use but I have to build one. Thats will take me a few months. I have access to a 25# Little Giant Hammer will that get the job done or do I just have to wait till I can build the press?

Thanks

The 25 LG will work fine, just keep your billets on the small side. I made many, many pounds of damascus with my 25 before I got my 100 pounder.

I actually prefer a power hammer, over a press.

I have made damascus on a 25 LB LG before also. I made a 29 ton press and I keep going back to the hammers for most of the work. All my mosaic stuff has all been done on power hammers with tools. Power hammers are hard to beat for almost everything.

I got a 50# little giant...Sid down in Nebraska City can do some amazing stuff with his 25

But most of those I spoke with highly recommended a press.
