power hammer opinions

Joe, the only advice I'd give is to try several different hammers. You are far from me but are welcome to try it if you are ever in Denver. That is an open invitation to anyone btw. I am sure there are hammers of all types in Fla for you to try as well.

Lotsa good response. Yep, any help is a plus!
This Fairbanks A weighs in at over 2000#, Don.
Since firing this up in early summer, I found another LG50 and still plan on building a tire hammer. Like anvils, can't ever have enuff :-) bruce

I've heard good stuff about the Fairbanks.

Hammers are fun! I will have another 100 LG and possibly a Tom Clark hammer in the next few years. Equipment and tools are a good write-off for me :D

Fairbanks was noted as having the least number of moving parts.
Fella here yesterday, retired master chief, who told me he saw dozens of hammers dumped overboard when ships were mothballed/scrapped. What a shame! Said it was cheaper than off-loading.

I can vouch for that.Went to my old ship's decommissioning in April.[USS Saipan LHA2].Stopped in the mach.shop and asked what they were going to do with all the old equipt.Said it was all going to the bottom. That being said I got a small air hammer from Ted Banning in Parkersberg,Wv.He builds them himself:thumbup:Does anything the big boys will do,just takes a little longer. On a final note,if you think the air comp.you are going to buy is big enough, get the next one up.Don't ask how I know this.:jerkit:

I should clarify my earlier statement about 50 lb Little Giants. I have never used a good running 50, just wore out and poorly adjusted hammers. I'm sure a well adjusted 50 LG is a pleasure to run.

Talked with Robert. He wants to sell all of them as a package. Also heard back from Keri at LG. They don't have any now, but they will probably have a 25 pounder in the late fall. She said they get $3800 for one, which sounds like a pretty darn good deal for what is essentially an new and improved hammer. She also said that they have their 25 strapped to a base made from bolted together boards so it can be moved around the shop.
