Powerful Long-Lasting Flashlight ?

What is "hot restrike" ?
roland

Hot restrike is simply the ability to turn the light off and then quickly back on again. Most HIDs, particularly the more economical ones, don't have that ability. If you've been using the light and turn it off, you should wait 15 to 30 seconds before turning it back on again.

I'm away from my rural property at present so i have not had a chance to try out the H.I.D. where there is no light pollution.

I've used this HID light tonight. I have a deer hanging up as high as possible in the woodshed and my 2 small dogs have been out in the field barking. A few wolves have recently been seen here and there is at least 1 cougar.
This supposedly 3500 lumen HID outshines the 1200 lumen LED in brightness and distance, but not by a huge amount.
It's about 350 yards across my field to the bush on the far side. The HID beam is fixed, cannot be focused, and by 350 yards it has such a wide spread that not much can be seen at this distance. For closer in, up to about 200 yards there is enough light to see whatever is there.
The "Monster" LED flashlight seems to be less powerful at full charge than when i first got it about 1 month ago. I'm not sure if this is real or imagined on my part.
The $225 HID light is a bit of a disappointment. It certainly is not 3x as powerful as the LED as specs would suggest (3500L. vs. 1200L.). That it came with zero paperwork, zero labelling and not even a bill of sale leads me to believe that i was sent a less powerful flashlight than i paid for. I would not deal with this Florida retailer again.

dude just to go candlepowerforums and read up on the lights. be careful though, like knives and guns, they get addictive

You may consider something from LED lenser
LED Lenser

they make pretty decent lights, I own one that i got a lowes for about 50

it runs on 3 AAA batteries and puts out 100 lumens and lasts for a decent amount of time,

my advice is cruise their website and see if there is anything that fits the bill

I would like to point out that even if the specs says it has 3 times the lumens, it won't be 3 times as bright. How it was explained to me was that it would take 4 times the output for the beam to appear 2 times as bright.

I didnt read this whole thread but iv been using my streamlight stinger LED for about 2 years now. I use it at work all day every day. With on and off use i can go a week or more on one charge. Straight run time at full power will last a couple hours and then dims down. But, it is rechargable and comes with 2 battery packs so you can take the other batt with you hand have about 4 hours of full strength. I swear by this light. Ib beat the crap out of it at work(mechanic at toyota), iv ised it as a hammer many times lol. Im going to do a video review on it soon. Best 100 buck iv ever spent. Oh and i walk my dog at night in pitch black and it will light up a person and stop them in their tracks 100 feet away. I cant see too well farther because i only have average eyesight but im sure its plenty bright. The light is blinding.

It sounds like you need throw and that does not just have to do with lumens or power "brightness". If you like the TK70 then look at the TK60. Also best price JetBeam BC40 , Sunwayman T40CS has great throw. Look at EagleTac M3C4 XM-L, Olight SR51 or the one everybody says has the best throw the Olight SR90.

Both my 3500L HID and 1200L LED flashlights are still working as when new. When not in use or if only very brief use both hold their charge for montha. I haven't timed the total run time on High, but it's certainly long enough for most situations, likely between 1-2 hours.
I could never go back to the regular clam pack department store flashlight. I've been enjoying the brightness and distance of these high tech lights.
