The soldiers from the 507th Maintenance are stationed at Ft. Bliss, which is right here in the middle of El Paso. Many of my students have parents who are deployed. You can see the concern on their faces. You can spot them at lunch on the playground...they're the ones who are just standing by the trees or sitting by the door. All the flags are at half-mast. Man, this is the first time something like this has really hit home since the Vietnam War. My son, who is in the swamp phase of Ranger School, wrote me to say that he's heard that his orders for Korea, like many others, has been put on hold pending reassignment. Now I know what my dad felt.

Don't know why, but I just wanted to get that all off my chest to you all. Thanks for listening.

Recent polls suggest about 75% of America suport the war. But 62% feel sad about it.

As do I for both sides. To be sent out on an empty stomach to fight a modern army?

War is a rough thing to endure; for those on both sides; for those fighting and those who pray for them at home.

I'm with Uncle Bill. It looks like they are going to need all the help they can get.

It scares me to think so but, I wonder if the high command hasn't under estimated the enemy just a bit? They have already come against more resistance than they figured and the biggest fight hasn't started yet.

We need to all pray for the guys that are facing this. It is bad enough to fight enemy soldiers and with the sand storms, I would think it has to be twice as hard. The monsoons were bad but at least you can breath.

I know how you feel, Ben. My son just completed Apache Longbow flight school. He's headed to Texas first then, most probably, to that crap hole in the desert. He's says he'll be OK. I still worry.

Semper, when you hear from your son, be sure to tell him that my family and I appreciate everything he is doing for us. It is hard to imagine the collective emotions that are being experienced for sons, daughters, wives, husbands, and friends. I will keep your son in my prayers. It would be nice if there was somewhere we could post pictures of those we know who are serving...sort of a digital wall of heroes.

Justright, Pappy, golok...thanks.

Thanks Federico, we're hanging in there. The support that the city is showing is amazing. I tell you what, I couldn't be prouder to be an American!
