So, let’s say you had a 12 or so year old that is becoming more and more interested in the making of things, in particular, knives. He wants to hang out in the shop and learn/help, which is awesome. Normal precautions can be and are taken to avoid bits and pieces of things going into eyeballs and all general common sense safety procedures are adhered to when dealing with any machinery.
Then there’s the grinding... What do you guys use for kids so they aren’t sucking down the nasty stuff we grind? Do they make small enough respirators to get a good seal? Or is a “small”, just going to fit a small adult and leave plenty of gap to inhaled? If there is a small enough one, does anyone prefer one make over another? I just don’t want to have him getting this stuff into his lungs, and I know it can hang in the air a while. If he wants to come out to the shop and be together and learn, I want to foster that as much as possible, while keeping him safe. Thanks for any suggestions.
