Practical light?

Keep the G2. It's the perfect host for a P60 drop-in. Go to Candlepower Forums to the LED section and check the thread on P60 drop-ins. There are a TON of good inexpensive choices. You can get a quality three-mode unit with super run time and output versatility for around $25 or less.

I am assuming that you still have the P60 lamp in your G2. You might consider one of the Cree LED replacements. I have a couple in my G2s and a set of batteries lasts about 4 hours at full brightness and still give usable light for a few hours after that.

I never had much luck with rechargeable batteries. I don't worry about he cost of Surefire batteries. I get them free. :D

I agree. Drop the incandescant light and get yourself a good LED replacement.

Keep the G2 and get the P60L drop-in, thatll bump your batt life to 11 hours.

Better yet, get on ebay and grab one of the 3 or 5 mode LED drop-ins for the G2 for like $15, then you get to choose your light level and run time plus get strobe and sos if you want. I wouldn't own a G2 without one. Best light combo around for roughly $50 IMHO.

Spend time on Bladeforums and you'll hear Busse and ESEE a lot. Spend time on candlepower forums and you'll know you can't go wrong with a Fenix or Quark.

I highly recommend the Quark 123 but if you're married to the AA idea the get that version. The best thing? You can get interchangeable bodies and swap from AA to AAx2 to CR123.

To me, the fenix seems slightly better quality but I prefer the Quark for the moonlight mode. Excellent run time and very practical low light. I got rid of a Fenix LD10 because the low was way to bright. Other than that it was great. I ultimately settled on a Nitecore D10 but kept the Quark also.
