I've been practicing my no match fires recently and wanted to share some pictures with all of you.

I grabbed my Becker necker, Izula, LMF fire steel, GG 3/16"x3" steel and 1936 Mussette bag along with some gloves and ziplock bags and headed to the alleyway behind my apartment complex. There I gathered some Juniper needles, different kinds of grass, some stalky pushes, twigs and some elm leaves (everything was dead and dry of course ;)). On the way back I got some toilet paper and paper towels just in case.

Here you can see everything I gathered for my tests:

Took some of the tan colored grass leaves and made a nest. Got the stalky weeds ready to throw on as soon as the leaves were ready. Using my Izula and LMF steel I proceded to make some sparks and after 3 strikes the grass caught and started burning. I added the stalky weeds and some juniper needles then added the thicker stalks:

I let that burn for a while and when I thought it was ready I added some twigs and let it burn:

After it had burned to coals I threw different things on them to see what would light and all the brushy stuff worked to reignight the flames. Grabbed some lint from the laundry mats in the complex and tried using that to catch a spark and it worked pretty well. The Going Gear steels worked well when I figured out how hard to press, do it to hard and it just bumps along like a washboard, to light and you get scrapings, it's somewhere in the middle and I think I found it.

Going to check the grill and if it's cooled off I'll practice some more and get more pictures to share. Thanks for reading and if you have any sugestions feel free to share them.

Hope your neighbors don't get the impression that you're some sort of pyromaniac or something :D

I'm pretty sure they won't for long, I have a reputation as a mountain man so if anything this will just help with that. ;)

great pics brother.....I like the collection of fire bundle you got going!!!!

Thanks, I gathered more grass and what I think is dry dill weed and did some more pacticing. Here's all the stuff again, this time with the Mussette bag:

Found some kind of grass or flower with long wide leaves so I gathered up the dry leaves and tried it with some drier lint and as you can tell from the follow picture it worked really well:

Here is an upclose shot:

Then I added that dill weed looking stuff and it really took off:

As you can see that stuff burned really well:

What ever that wide leafed stuff is it works really well as you can see from the next two pictures:

This one was taken a few seconds after lighting it:

And here it is after about 20 to 30 seconds:

So far I'm liking the leafy grasses with little to no stalks and that Dill weed looking stuff. I've saved some and when my tins get here I'll be adding those two items to my kits. :)

The Going Gear Fire steels are my favorite! The sparks tend to be bigger and hotter then my LMF steel and seem to catch stuff a little faster when you get it just right. Thanks for looking,

Heber
