Praetorian Ti too expensive?

First post sorry if I’m breaking any rules. I have been looking at a Praetorian Ti that has a design I really love. My concern is the pricing that is on it. It truly is a one of a kind with a Vulcan blade, ANO MD Spring Ti flamed hardware etc etc. Ive done quite a bit of research and have noticed that the “non super customized” ones are in the $13-1600 range. I also know that people either love them or HATE them. The price on it now is $1750. Just seems like thats a bit high. Thoughts? Thanks in advance!

I finally looked at their site. With the FUK and DP going for $425 each, it's really hard to say what a Praetorian Ti is worth. It's a matter of individual taste.

I got a regular one from member here stealth black carbon scale only 250 made for 400 DOLLARS. FRIGGING LOVE IT it's a tank Google it it sweet. It a partner with a blade it's d2steel which I like

Do you "$1750" love it? Then no, it's not too expensive.

If you "$500" love it, then, yes it is.

It is at it's price point because people are willing to pay that for it.

Only you know if you are among them.
Extremely well put. I honestly know I love the design and know that its one of a kind. He’s knocked $100 off (was $1850) I’m assuming he’s had it a while.

Its completely up to you. If you're happy with it at $1750, buy it. You didnt over pay for it if you're happy with the purchase.

Nice!!! Love it! It would be great to find a Ti on here for $400!!! Cheapest I can find is like 1100 for a secondhand Ti

I would consider that price to be high, in general, understanding however that some Medfords go for that much. Some things to consider would be - Do you currently own any other Medford knives to where you are familiar with the brand? Have you ever been able to handle one in person at a local shop? What is the intended use?
I think something like the Praetorian, for the price you're looking at, might be a knife you would like to have in hand first to see if it's for you. For all of its size it still only has a 3.75" blade, which is long but not outsized. Most of the jimping on Medfords is often pretty sharp, so not always the most comfortable to cut with for extended periods. Also, at 12.4oz's it is a heavy knife to EDC in a regular pants pocket all the time, so application might be a real consideration. Seems like plenty of folks don't mind, but it also seems a lot of people buy this knife to check it out and then seek to sell it without actually carrying / using it a whole lot. I have not heard of any quality issues associated with the brand, though many carp at their warranty statement.
A consideration would be trying one of their just smaller Praetorians for almost half the price and deciding from there if Medfords are for you. I would also look into the sales forum here to see if you could find a similar full-sized for less. We all love knives a whole lot, so sinking that much into just one might find you wanting something else that's new in the near future but being out almost two thousand dollars with just the one, albeit potentially awesome knife to show for it.

Check out DLT trading for a new one. Might be worth your time cruising by there. They have tons of different configurations and most are cheaper than that and are brand new. Just a suggestion since we can't deal spot.

The TI version of the Praetorian (not the T) is a handmade version. They are truly beasts and a work of craftsman art. Value is much like any custom, the intersection of the buyers and sellers number.

Yeah...I’ve flirted with Medford’s. His knives are too heavy for my taste. Overbuilt? Yep. Quality? Yep. But to me they are pocket anchors. Sold or traded every one I got my hands on.

Thank you! Yes I have looked at it in person 2 times and held it opened it closed it and all. I like it a lot but am definitely a bit intimidated by it in size and price. (I like bigger knives though) the dealer is super cool and is not at all aggressive. Definitely will check out the sales forum! Thanks!

I forgot to add my use case at this moment is not heavy. I figure a knife like that would last forever for me and like the idea that if my usecase became heavier it could handle the load. As a military guy I love the idea of overbuilt things that can last.

As a collector i think it's too plain and bulky for my taste, which is some of the appeal to others. It would be the first thing in my collection up for sale and i'd rather have 4-6 nice production folders for that price.

If i really needed to check one out i would buy used and wouldn't spend anymore than i think i could sell it for.

Really tempted to try Medford because they look cool and should be very durable, but never could pypl the trigger because I need a knife to be sharp more than I need it to be tough.
Like I carry a Delica Wharncliffe in HAP 40 and love it.
All Medfords are overpriced to me but if you need a folder that tough and the design looks that good to you then they aren't that outrageous considering the price point on Medfords is about the same as the other small scale production companies like Chris Reeve or Microtech.

What's your income and net worth? The higher they are, the less $1750 matters.

FWIW, my rule of thumb is NOT to buy a knife for the amount that I can buy a gun. So, the MOST I have paid in cash for any knife is $450 but most cost me bet $100-250. I've got a lot a great knives spending only that much on each

Do what you can afford and think best in your situation.

Make a great income and def have a good amount saved up. In all honesty I’m more of a one knife one gun type of guy. I do however want those to both be great quality. (Definitely won’t only have one knife but don’t want too many)
