Praetorian Ti too expensive?

Most decent knives will last forever if you take care of them properly. Unless you are smacking your knife with a hammer, most other knives would last just as long and maybe cut a little better.

This.

OP, please don't make the mistake of thinking that you need a super expensive CRK/Hinderer/Strider/Medford/etc. to get a knife that lasts a lifetime. Something well made from basically any reputable company will work fine.

Thanks guys. Definitely understand and recommend knives would be great!

Based on your comments in this thread I have to say that I think you will love the feel of the Praetorian.

I own two Praetorians, although neither is the exact variety you're considering. My full-size is a G10/Ti (Praetorian G) and my all-Ti is a smaller Praetorian Genesis T; so right size but wrong materials, wrong size but right materials, and neither is anywhere near $1,750 (even new).

So with that caveat that I can't speak to your exact model, they're both wonderful knives (as is my TFF-1, also pictured below). I love the aesthetics, the combination of practical ergos and impractical fun factor, and the precision of their engineering.

My first Medford was the start of a slow realization that I needed fewer of my other knives and more Medfords; I've sold off a good third of my collection to make that happen.:D

Love them! I’ll have to post a picture of the one I’m looking at

Well I have no clue how to post a picture on here I have the description in full-

Medford Praetorian Ti S35VN Vulcan Blade Finish Tanto Grind ANO MD Handle ANO MD Spring Ti Flamed Hardware

I couldn't say if the Ti would be worth it to you, I personally think the regular T is more than enough knife for most people. I love a big knife and carry my G quite often, I don't think I'd carry the Ti much if I had one, not so much for the price, but the blade thickness and the added thickness of the scales would make it less of a cutter and more of a pocket brick.

Dude if you love the praetorian then go get it if you want to spend that much, just understand that you might have a hard time selling it later for what you paid. You can always get a cheaper youone. If don't want to sell it then it doesn't matter.

For me, yes, it is "too expensive".
So a $60 Case traditional, come to that.

EDIT:
If you have to ask if "is it to expensive?"
You already know the answer:

"YES! It is too expensive"

If you have to get a loan to pay for it (includes leaving a balance on the credit card) then YES, it is too expensive.

There are a LOT of Ti handled knives on the market for over $1500 less that will do everything that Medford can.
Why spend $1500 or more for the "Medford" name?

Definitely thankful I would not have to put it on a credit card or get a loan for it. Yes of course I have a gut feeling that it may be too expensive however I haven’t purchased a premium knife before and the congruency of pricing for this type of knife has led me to believe that they command a premium and are getting it for a quality knife. One thing I was questioning was why this one would be a couple hundred dollars more than the average Tis on the market. I have found that these types of custom Ti knives are getting that extra premium.

I've had multiple Praetorians (love them), and had both T (.187" blade) and Ti (.26" blade). If you want to be gobstruck by it's presence, the Ti in off the hook. For carry/use, I must admit preferring the T, which leaves room enough to buy a second Medford in .26" such as a Marauder (now THAT is a superb model, in any of it's size/width variations) or a Viper (overlooked KILLER flipper wharnie). I had a drop point vulcan Marauder in .26 that was my favorite Medford to date.

The TI version of the Praetorian (not the T) is a handmade version. They are truly beasts and a work of craftsman art. Value is much like any custom, the intersection of the buyers and sellers number.

Thanks for the explanation, always wondered why some Ti handled ones were fairly cheap and then some were crazy expensive. Thought they were the same thing. One question though, with Medford what does custom mean? Greg really put it together or one of the guys in his shop did?

OilMan OilMan
I don't have a Medford yet but Greg has a lot of cool videos on YouTube showing how they make them. I subscribe to his channel and from what I can tell from all the videos is he always around doing something but he's not personally making all the knives. In a recent video of knives going out to a vendor Amy said all those knives were embellished/customized by Greg himself. I'm lusting after a full size praetorian t drop point with either 3v or s90v blade. I've tried to cut myself back to one fairly expensive knife a year vs a bunch of $120-150 ones; so maybe next year will be the year.

I got a ti version in 3v black g10 that will be going up for sale soon, round blade, thinner version Vulcan finish I paid $700 from a gentleman off this site, New from a Miami knife show.

The ti's are that much. The t's are about $1000 cheaper and more likely to be used(by me anyway). Not only because of the price, the blade stock is .190" instead of .260".

i would not pay 1,700 for any knife , but since i got my medford i would pay 700 and im happy as hell i got one for 400 bucks brand new with box and dog tag . i wanted a beast and it damn sure is . it will never be sold . some people are blade snobs , and talk smack about D2 but i love D2 blades . i farm for a living and i have no doubt it will do whatever job i want . plus its cool as hell looking lol
