Hey Everybody I'm still in the process of creating my first TRUE made from bar stock custom knife and an thought had occered to me since I have the equipment I should try parkerizeing the steel. you know give it a little more added strengh and durabillity. I just wanted to ask "Does anyone else try parkerizing their blades???" I know several gun companys to for their AR's POF, Christianson, Knighs Arament. but does anyone to it to knives? Is this a good idea???

Parkerizing is a very good surface finish, but it does not add strength or durability to steel.
Parkerizing over a properly blasted surface holds oil well, and therefore prevents corrosion. It should work as well as any surface finish, maybe better than most.

Well, Duracoat recommends their product be applied over Parkerizing.
Personally, I wouldn't ruin good Parkerizing by painting it. I would think it better than paint.

Ya I guess Im just looking for that little extra add on to add durabity as well as streagthening the steel at the same time that really my biggest objective, I like parkerizeing but I think on a second thought leaving that satin finnish may not be the design idea Im going for.

Please understand-NO COATING, PAINT, OR PLATING will "strengthen" your steel.
