OK, I'm seriously thinking that bladesmithing (and blacksmithing in general) might be something that I really need to explore more, and I will be doing this soon. It might just be my ticket to a more independent lifestyle, take control of my destiny and all that.

BUT...I needed to state this to the bladeforums universe, because I've been a dreamer of many dreams, but for some reason I lack the mental power to execute these things. I know it's all in my head. So maybe putting this out here will shame me into actually following through with my visions and making them become a reality.

So, first thing I've done is contact Old Dominion Blacksmithing Association and see who's around and what there up to, they seem super friendly, in addition looking at all the great information on this site.:)

Best,

Blair

UPDATE 7/29/12

Well just got back from my first experience using a forge and hammering on some mild steel. Gentleman named Bobby Floyd graciously opened up his shop to introduce me to the craft. No knives yet, but I'm on my way. :)

Good luck to ya! I'm also a dreamer and for many, many years I failed to act on my dreams. I chose to please other people and confirm to what they thought I should be doing. Now I'm in my late 40's finally trying to make some of them come true. Knifemaking was one of the things I always wanted to do and I've been attempting it for the last year and it's been a blast!
