Why argue religion? Why debate faith?

Who in here can prove that the world is round? I think it is and the facts support this but they're not facts that I can personally verify. When you get right down to it, I'm making a leap of faith in my assumption.

Everyone has faith in something, even if it's not religious in nature. Trying to explain it is often a waste of time. Don't bother. If it's working for you, I'd say that you're doing rather well.

Your elders are right on. If you're fortunate enough to have a gift, use it. There are others who would give much to have it.

I concluded some time ago that everything in my life is either a reward, a punishment, or a test - sometimes all three. The measure of the man is not what comes his way, but how he deals with it.
 
Thanks for the encouragment and advice. I am doing this. I am doing it to demonstrate my faith. I trust that God will provide all. Right now I am fleshing out the idea. I am also selecting the materials needed. I am waiting for the official letter of acceptance from the worship leader. I will submit my idea with some sketches and upon approval of that idea I will start cutting. I have to say that this has grown me already. I am taking a step into relief carving. Up till now I have just whittled. Chains, ball-in-cages, etc. My idea includes both. I have never been able to do a figure, and my idea does not include one, but that may be something to develop out of this all. Continued prayer and smoke would be appreciated. This project will take a few months. I am shooting to have it done around Christmas.

should the leadership decide it needs a figure (just in case)...you can always do a body and have the face "turn away". I don't like doing faces (neither did Picasso!)...and that what I did (life drawing class, etc.)

When you get your drawing approved, would you mind sharing with us? I'd love to see it.
 
Actually, faces are no problem. Just break the nose off. This will give it historical accuracy and eliminate the problem of identity.

prayer for discernment of your path is tendered....and the reminder we all have paths to choose and putting what "we" want on the backburner often helps, as in the end, the religious life is one of service nurtured by waiting....
 
If you have lost belief in yourself, you will not find it in religion! You are the one who decides your destiny.
Shoot me for this belief..

God bless you, Bob. Read the beatitudes again. Brother, when you are meek, and a peacemaker, and pure in spirit..there are special promises for you. Christ worked with His hands, too. Pick up your tools and ask yourself " If Christ were here with the same opportunity to create lasting art for His church, what message would He leave on canvass or in wood?" Then be His hands and his eyes. Have fun doing it.
