Prayers Please.

Smoke and prayers to your family, Jay. Peace be upon you during this hard time.

We'll get everyone praying overtime.
The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

Update:

First, thank you all for your prayers, kind words and advice. He's in Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago. They did a spinal tap and the fluid is clear and did a biopsy on the swollen lymph node in his neck. They gathered bone marrow for further analysis and will preform a full CAT scan tonight. So far, so good. I'm in Florida but my wife spent the day with him. She claims there's an aura around him, undoubtedly from all our prayers. I will forever be greatful to all for being there for him in time of need. I know he's in a good place. I spent almost two years in Children's 45 years ago with a rare auto-immune disease, dermatomyocites and finally recovered mostly unscathed. Bless you all.

Smoke and prayers sent to all, for speedy recovery

Update #2: Prognosis, T-Cell Lymphoma. Not sure which type as of yet. Heavy Chemo already, bringing a 6-4 17 year old HS pitching star to his knees. I'm upset since he's family. Please know your prayers are making a huge difference. Love you all.

I had similar in 1986, pediatric non hodgekins lymphoma (t-Cell Lymphoma is one type, B-Cell is the other) has a high rate of remission, and the prognosis is generally excellent nowadays. The good news, is that most patients do not become sterile and are able to reproduce later in life. The protocol is very mild compared to what was given 25 years ago, but they still use methotrexate, which is very hard on the liver and kidneys, staying hydrated is extremely important throughout the treatment period. He will probably get prednisone, which in fair amounts can cause personality changes, anger, and rage especially. Cravings for food, strange combinations of food (guacamole and pizza, sardines and ice cream, etc...), , and water weight gain, are side effects of prednisone. I broke 2 solid oak desks during my treatment. As a teen, losing all of my hai and body hair was traumatizing, I don't know how your nephew will take it, but be prepared with a sympathetic ear, and kind words.

Need any suggestions, or advice, you can always contact me. I believe you still have my email address, and/or you can PM or email me from BF.

Smoke and prayers up for his recovery.

Thanks brother Cul. If you didn't see, I had dermatomyocites, as a youth in the dark ages in 1972. 100mg of prednisone twice a day. You know the ramifications more than most but, I lived. I have proof of not being Strerile. However, I believe the side effect of Methotrexate are pure evil. However, just a judgement call.

I did se that, congrats on beating that horrible monster. You right, that Methotraxate is just evil. I thought it was the easiest to take, least nausea, but it can do a number on the filtering organs. I know some leukemia patients, that succumbed not to the disease, but the metho did them in. I found that staying hydrated, and drinking clear soups with ginger helped the most. Simple soups made from 'Fuzzy Melon", mustard greens, winter melon, spinach, and a small piece of pork, pork bone, or can of chicken broth, and a skinned piece of ginger, simmered for 45min to 2 hours, and drinking it daily or as every other day at the least. The day before treatment, my mother would buy the cheapest piece of beef as possible (6"), put slits in it, put slices of ginger in the slits, put in a curved dish, and steam for 20 minutes, the "blood juice" that comes out, have your nephew drink (kind of spicy, due to the ginger), the meat gets thrown away. It helps to clean the blood, and bring the blood counts up. I never, ever had to take my sulfa, or my colace, which I never told my doctor until much later after treatment, much to his surprise, considering I never caught a cold or had constipation during the treatment.

3 days late but still wishing all the best.

Regarding the Ginger extract I buy it as fresh as possible. Indian stores usually have it. The skin looks darker when the whole root is still moist. I peel the skin off and mash the ginger up in a mortar. Pour the liquid in a cup and squeeze out the pulp to get the last drop.
If the ginger happens to be on the drier side I add lemon juice and then mash up the root. Let it sit for 30 minutes and pour out the liquid and squeeze out the pulp.
It's highly concentrated but clears up nose and throat. The kids hate it but still take it willingly since it helps with their cold symptoms.
Never knew its good with cancer.

Smoke up.
